Better Shock Resistance

Between G10 and Micarta, which has better shock resistance? I decided to try out a slotted guard made of micarta. Milled it very close to the size needed, and I just wanted to give it a tap just to make sure that it matched up with the rounded ricasso, and literally with a tiny tap with a small rubber mallet it split right in half. Would G10 be a little more tough in this aspect? Otherwise I might pick up a little bit of CF and try that out.

Neither material is made to be stretched or struck with mallets. It would be better to use a solid material, not a laminate.

Not all G10 or Micarta is necessarily created equal, but in general, G10 is probably going to be a little tougher. Now, that being said, as Stacy mentioned, neither is going to stretch very much. Under the right circumstances and depending on geometry, either material can be quite durable, but for the application of a guard, a solid material may be a better choice.

I've made several guards out of g10 and micarta. I've made it more of of hand pressure slip fit, and never had any issues. May just have to adjust your technique for the material, if you really want to use micarta/g10.

Old canvas micarta will tend to be a lot more split resistant than new paper micarta, to present two ends of the spectrum.
You might try Warwood, I have found it to be like micarta but almost a bit more like a very hard rubber. It bounces when you throw it at the floor. Also, it was the shock absorptive layer in MRAP armor...
