Better than a Zippo???

But, face it, as a fire starter, particularly one you might need in an emergency, it is no match (oops, poor pun!) for a modern BIC. . . .

I have to confess that I use a disposeable lighter when camping. They weigh much less and their "jet" of flame can be directed down or sideways into a pile of tinder.

I still like the Zippo best overall, even if they are heavy and leak vapors. Why? They burn so many fuels and are built to last. It doesn't hurt that they make that cool "clink," either :)

By the way, has anyone ever worn out a Zippo?

I carry a RONI, zippo, matches, a matchsafe with strike-anywhere matches(cut down of course), but for really longterm survival I carry a firepiston.....

Personally when I'm backpacking I just carry a BIC stlye lighter and some waterproof matches. I have a Zippo, just never carried it w/ me when trying to be a minimalist. Actually I have been looking at purchasing one of those Windmill lighters. Apparently the general feeling I get here is that they are not worth the price. What is the deal? What is ther downfall? please explain. maybe I won't be dropping $60 for one afterall.
