I would definitely prefer a small wheel attachment for my belt grinder. But my current method is to hog the curve with the corner of my platen/contact wheel, then switch to sanding sleeves/drums on my air die grinder. Or, I'll hog first with a stone wheel on the die grinder.
Sanding sleeves don't last long but they're fairly cheap. You can also easily super glue cut up grinding belts onto dead drums. I do this especially with trizact belts (regular, not gator) when I want to get a higher polish. I find that cutting a parallelogram shape, so the splice is at an angle, is the best way to do this.
