Between the rc-4 and 6. Which do you prefer?

I have the RC-6 and Its a good sized blade, big enough to work adequately on batonning and chopping (not as a machete to be clear). The handle size makes it more than usable with winter gloves. The choil is great for smaller wood work. I don't find the RC-6 big, I find it to be the right size. If you want to be fully equipped I would consider an Izula to go with that, that's what I have and just love this combo.

As for the RC-4 I'm waiting for mine to arrive by snail-mail so I'll keep you updated on this.

4. I have hunted with it (just butchered a nice bear with mine) and camped with it. I see no reason to add the 6 other than as a collectible of sorts. In camp we have both machetes, axes and saws. In the field I have a folding saw and a Leatherman Xti-more than what I'd need for a survival situation. The 4 is unquestionably easier to handle for use on dead animals and I don't use the whole handle when I am skinning anyway. I use to have a BK9 in my pack. I no longer carry that extra weight with me.

Tough call. I like both of them. I actually find the smaller grips of the RC-4 and RC-3 (same grips) more comfortable than the RC-6. I wouldn't say that the RC-6 is uncomfortable, but I prefer the grips in the smaller knives. However, when camping I love having that intermediate blade. The extra length is just great for batoning and food prep activities.

The biggest part of the decision really has to do with social feedback related to your knife carry. If you are going day hiking in a popular camping area you are more likely to get the funny looks while wearing a 6" blade. I rarely take out a big chopper of intermediate size knife for my dog walks in the local parks or short day hikes. In these places the RC-4 is much more acceptable. I do love both knives equally. Because of the ability to carry in wider circumstances I think the RC-4 is more versatile for me.

Depends what you want the blade for. Is it for more wood processing and that type of work? Than the RC 6. If it is for more hunting oriented or smaller work, the RC 4.

I love the RC4, if the handles were only a little bigger, the RC6 fits my hand perfectly but each of us have different hand sizes so it all depends

The RC-6 is my favorite of all the knives we do. It has the right balance to do big work as well as smaller chores. The RC-5 is my least favorite.

I carry my RC-6 in my Maxpedition bag in the back slash pocket closest to my spine. Really unobtrusive there, and I can still grab it without having to remove the bag. It's such a great all-'rounder that I can't help but carry it everywhere in hopes of using it! :D
