I have my first 5 blades HTed. I am trying to "finish" them. I have the first flat ground ( well sorta). I was trying to do the secondary bevel on my grinder. My humble little craftsman 2 X 42. Holding the handle in my right hand moving the blade left to right 9 O'clock to 3 O'clock straight made the secondary bevel nice along the flat but broad on the belly of the blade and the tip. I started rotating the blade at the belly and when I was at the tip it was facing 12 O'clock and the bevel looked better, more consistant size along the entire length of the blade. I do not want to develop bad habits early. Is this a correct way to set the secondary bevel??

I do everything with the blade @ a 9 to 3 position. having the blade going verticle will allow for the top or bottom wheels above and below the flat platen to dig in. I'd say try and keep the blade horizontal.

I have been making knives for a while now, and I never try to put the edge on with the belt grinder. As they say in the shooting sports, You can't miss FAST enough to make up for missing. :jerkit: I always spend time with a coarse oil stone to get it right. Some times it takes an hour to get it right. I can ruin a blade in three seconds on the belt grinder. :thumbdn: :barf: What works for you and the blade is "right."

oh..Sharpening the blade. Better watch out with that Craftsman. Belt mooves to fast for my taste and that sucker will overheat quick.

Wasn't trying to sharpen. Just starting the secondary bevel. I can do that with stones. I have a lansky and a sypdeco system. Was just wondering,
first time trying to finish a blade
