beware... 153UH CHINA in disguise

if it doesn't say USA anywhere in the ad assume the worst. This ad does not state where its made exactly does it? I have a lovely large Uncle Henry trapper which was stated to be US made. Its not. & you can tell right away . buyer beware.

I read the description, and I don't know if I would call it deception. It doesn't mention in the add that it is a U.S made knife, unless I missed it...
Although the statement "The last in the display case since Schrade closed" could be taken a couple of different ways. The tang stamp is an easy giveaway that its not U.S made, as is the box.

i'm willing to give benefit of the doubt as well, but notice how where it is stamped CHINA below the 153UH is obscured by the hilt and the angle of the photo. i have asked the question. we'll see if i get a response.

That color of box is ALWAYS a Taylor knife. Clearly deception or ignorance. Or both.

Seller being sneaky. Wouldn't have fooled any semi-serious collectors though.

I sent him a very polite message warning him of the differences between the two makers, lets see if he changes anything in the ad.

no response to my question yet as to what is stamped below the 153UH. (I already know what it is.) this listing, and possibly the seller, just make me uneasy. that's why i posted. i hate to see any of my fellow collectors duped.

i have recently picked up two 165s that had been reworked. one lightly sanded, not a good job at all (listed as mint). damage in shipping as well due to poor packaging. the other has been worked on with a dremel, listed as lightly used, excellent+. ha! couldn't tell from the pictures. Michael backed off that one so i bid and won. wish i hadn't.

anyone wanting to know the used id of the sellers, pm me. not sure i should give the names in a post.

I found this 153UH at a local fleamart last year.
Seller's reserve was more than $6 though.
Even the box is purtier than a Schraylor's. :D

I received the following reply to my question of "What is stamped under the 153UH". The answer: "that stamp says china."

As a side note, the seller did NOT post the question and answer to the listing.

You are right, and it didn't fool me, but to someone just starting out? shaft!

Fellow Schrade collectors. I have been checking on this listing regularly since first seeing it. It looks like something must have happened, because this little addendum showed up out there this evening.

"On May-07-10 at 18:26:52 PDT, seller added the following information:

THIS IS A CHINA MADE KNIFE. ANY MORON WITH clearsite KNOWS THAT U.S. MADE UNCLE HENRY KNIVES DO NOT HAVE UNCLE HENRY ON THE TANG STAMP, THEY HAVE SHRADE."

I wonder if he will post this one?

"With all due respect, would also think any moron would know better than to put a reserve on a Chinese made knife."

Laughed till I cried! Too funny.
He should also learn how to spell Schrade!
I have this seller filed in the "Stay the heck away from!" bin.

Huh... Has an "Uncle Henry" stamp. Must be Chinese. Hmmmm... Let me take that off your hands for ya. :D

Nice knife Jamo!

Methinks you guys are being a little tough on the seller. Seems a few of you go out of your way to look for trouble. He does have some other decent knives for sale, and if you look at his buying history, he has bought a few very nice ones as well. Part of the problem may be that collectors of the classic sought after brands may not know that there are shade fanatics that do care about the imperial-schrade brand.

Lighten up, huh? If you have a doubt about the pedigree of an ebay knife, as the seller nicely and don't spread manure about him all over this forum.

Oldknife007: There are a lot of sellers that deceive on purpose, and sometimes are knife collectors that took the bait themselves, and then want to get their money back. Others are clearly trying to prey on new collectors that are eager to build a collection. Manure spreading here? In the hard core Schrade U.S.A. forum? Against non U.S.A. replicas? Nah, not us! :D

If a seller doesn't provide clear pictures or documentation of what they are selling, and especially if they are deceiving on purpose, they deserve a load of crap. That seller offers returns, so maybe just a small load for him, and he opened himself up with the moron comment, although it was probably in self defense.

My two coppers.
