BEWARE! Fake Morakniv!

Yeah, I’d like to know more about fake moras if this one’s fake.

Morakniv knives do unfortunately sometimes come with blades that are not perfectly straight. I just returned a Garberg that had a bent blade.

Also, a Scandinavian grind is actually quite weak. Most Moras would have an edge like that if batoned into steel.

The lack of patina is suspicious though. Most of my bare carbon versions take a patina or corrosion relatively easily. How long was it exposed to the fruit? Was the blade cleaned prior? Moras sometimes come with a thin layer of oil. This would need cleaned off to allow a patina to form.

At any rate, sorry about your negative experience with the knife. It would have been interesting to see if you could ship it to Mora to confirm if it was a counterfeit.

I wrote here at least two posts in several months about fake CH knives
One was Mora laminated steel at eBull for whooping $99 each
At the moment over 60 SOLD already !!!
Fo sale they got way over 200+ left

Second was expensive Bucks for $100
Original is rare, numbered and cost about $400
Buyers was so happy to buy one sooooo cheap :^))))))))))))))

BTW - All posts were mostly ignored :^(

Sucker is born evry minute ..

It looks like a real Mora to me.

They also made this model with a stainless blade. Maybe it was stamped as carbon by mistake? Stranger things have happened.

Counterfeiters in China copy knives (and just about everything else they can) from Every country. Not surprised they are doing Mora.
We used to see $30 "Rocksteads" at one point just a couple years ago. Fake Fallknivens are still common.

Checking for carbon steel doesn't need overnight soaking. Just put a drop of white vinegar on the blade. It should turn white in a matter of minutes. If not, it's stainless.

" It looks real". Yes, that's the whole idea.

I agree, but it's also strange to have it bend so much from just the tip test...
And huge dents on steel from few whacks on just a steel wire.

From all that he said - it looks like it's not heat treated at all...

of course, it makes sense, if you're going to defraud using the mora name, might as well max your profit

so, no heat treat = super easy to grind/polish & quick = fast $ from fraud
this way, sandpaper/grinding machines can likely do 5x or 10x more knives without changing abrasives

I thought the 511/611 has the red stained or painted wood handle of the number 1 and number 2, plus a half guard.
That's what my 511 had, at any rate. ("had" because I recently gave it to a staffette who is a huntress.)

Since you bought it a physical store, can you return it?

Those Mora model numbers can be hard to keep straight. My first Mora was a 612, essentially a red wood-handled #2 with a half guard. I have never had a 611, but understand it to be a #1, also with a half guard. There was also a wood model with a full guard. I do not recall the model #.

The 510, or 510 allround, used to be the cheapest knife in their lineup, with a hard red plastic handle. Its spot was taken by the 511 and the company supposedly trashed the tooling for the 510. Popular demand prompted the company to bring back the 510 allround, now with a black handle and a $13 price tag, justified by the cost of recreating the tooling.

Also to op, how is trying to chop wire a test of a genuine Mora?

The knife that he threw in the garbage and now only has pictures of a real Mora? May not help the email exchange.
What makes you think I even care about "email exchange"?

It's not like I'm asking them to send me a new knife. I'm just giving them a heads up that someone is probably knocking them off. I know I would want someone to tell me if I had someone knocking off my product.

To believe it or not - it's up to them. It's not my name that could get dragged through mud because of those fakes. I don't intend to force anyone into believing anything.

I never said it's a test of genuine Mora.
It's a test of heat treat.
Look at numerous tests of Mora on youtube, none of them bent in such way when they just tested the tip.
And none of them suffered massive rolls from just few light chops or "whacks" into the wire.
It's as if it isn't hardened at all...

Also, if this is genuine Mora as you try to imply - then Mora sucks.
We all know Mora usually makes good knives tho...

I did actually.
I wiped it with alcohol and then washed it before slicing an apple, then I got surprised it's pretty stain resistant as there was no change even by the time I ate the apple...

Then I left it covered with lemon juice for 2 hours - no changes at all...

This thing was definitley stainless.

I also sent Morakniv the receip.

So they can see I bought that exact model and also where I bought it and for how much.

It's mostly in Croatian, but hey, they can still understand the important things.

Yep, it definitely would have shown discoloration after being exposed to an apple and lemon juice.

Look, this is how it will go:

Mora: thanks for letting us know, your pics look real. But please send us the knife in question so we can look at it.

You: its fake

Mora: well sir how do you know?

You: it was bent, didn't patina immediately, or chop wire

Mora: well sir, you do know its a knife to cut things and not to chop wire like the "youtube reviewers do", but can you send it to us to see?

You: it was fake!!!!

Mora: ok..........

So thats how all this will go, because you had a real Mora that would have been warrantied by the company for the bent tip.
