Since this link goes to Alibaba dot com, who's ad was on my BF page, (is Sparks running ads on BF he is not paid to run?) I figure it is "safe" to post the link to a faux/fake Case "small stockman".
They don't give any details on the knife, but it is clearly a "Case" yellow "XX" stockman pictured.

My guess is it is sold on eBay and possibly other sites, so beware.

@Sparks You might want to consider dropping the Alibaba ad, since they sell fakes wholesale to "people"/"dealers" with no scruples.

I sent Case a link to the Alibaba page as well, since I don't know if they are aware of this.

Thanks for the heads up, that would be a difficult fake to spot if seen online or in a store somewhere.

I believe that the ads your seeing are generated from your personal search history along with a few other algorithms, and not necessarily ads that Spark can drop. It’s most likely tied to the software.

That's my understanding. The ads are provided by a service, which targets users with ads based on their browsing habits/search history or something like that. This thread might be better in the Service & Support forum.

That aside, it’s pretty appalling how audacious some manufacturers are in making fakes.

I've never even heard of the alibaba before and I see the ad too.

Here's what's probably happening, in case anyone is interested:
  1. BladeForums runs ads from Google Ad Services, where advertisements are placed on BladeForums by Google directly. Spark doesn't have any direct control over what ads are shown
  2. Advertisers like Alibaba pay Google to show targeted ads based on the user's known interests and buying habits
So, when you load BladeForums, the website sends a request to Google for a targeted ad. That request includes an identifier that Google maintains, via a cookie, that identifies your computer specifically. That identifier is then connected to data Google maintains on you, of what it knows of your browsing history, purchase history, etc. For example, if you've visited knife-related sites (like BladeForums) that host Google Ads, then Google knows you're likely interested in knives.

When Google gets the request, it has an algorithm that'll match your interests with advertisers. Alibaba has previously said that it'll pay Google to show its ads to customers that are interested in knives. Google knows you're (probably) interested in knives, and shows the Alibaba ad.

In other words, you don't need to have visited an Alibaba website in the past. Also, Spark (probably) can't ban those ads specifically - I'm not sure on what administrative features Google offers to site owners that would offer that level of control. At most, he can complain to Google that they're showing ads for counterfeit products on his site.

That would make sense, if not for my seeing ads for some company that sells (expensive; as in over a grand) car/truck/aircraft/ship/ and Star Wars models.
I have not looked at or bought a model kit since I graduated High School, long before Al Gore "invented" the Internet, (or before he became known to those outside Tennessee) and long before the Government came up with Google, and blamed someone else for it.

Oh well. At least a few folks know now that there are fake Case, (and Schatt and Morgan, apparently,) and no doubt other traditionals "out there".

Hey - I never said their targeting system works well ;). It's probably some combination of them guessing at your income/disposable cashflow, and your interests.

I block ads where I can, but for some reason Instagram really wants to show me ads for dating sim games. I have absolutely no idea how they got the idea I'd be interested - I swear! :)

If they going off my income ... they got the wrong guy.
After rent (which includes utilities, laundry service (excluding any dry cleaning) and grub. I am at an Assisted Living facility.) (not a "nursing home" or "skilled nursing facility") I got under $45 a month. Most of that goes for a couple tubes of "rock gut" chew, and maybe a week's worth of generic mountain dew, or a third tube of chew.

Oh well. At least I don't have a car to feed, insure, and care for :) ... with the current Covid-19 lock down, I can't go anywhere without getting quarantined, anyway.
My getting quarantined would cause the staffettes a lot of extra work, and they would have to wear a HAZ-MAT suit when near me, and to give me meals and my meds.
I don't want to cause the staffettes extra work. And, truth to tell, a couple of them provide a nice view coming and going. (I'm single) It would be a "sin" to have to hide that view behind a HAZ-MAT suit.
(I may be old, deformed, poor, and ugly, and can't touch, but that don't mean I can't/don't admire the view. :) )
