How'd I do that? Can anyone edit out that final "u" in my title? Jeeze!
Yesterday I continued pushing further up the Quemazon Trail. The first hike took me up about 1000 ft over a round trip distance of 6 miles; elapsed time was 2 1/2 hrs. Yesterday I pushed the climb to 2000 ft over a distance of 9 miles round trip. This hike took 4 hrs. (When I add the third leg the hike will comprise a 3000 ft climb over a 12 mile round trip. This hike takes 6 hrs and is excellent training for the Grand Canyon.)
Most of the pics presented are taken from the second leg of the Quemazon trail hike in order to avoid redundancy.
Here's Dingus following the trail through a stand of aspen and mountain mahogony:
Contact with Los Alamos Canyon marks the beginning of the second leg:
Dingus leaps over a large blowdown:
Here we are approaching the Jemez Mtns:
Finally, the upper edge of the burn comes into view:
This is the completion of the second leg, where Quemazon trail intercepts pipe line road. (Ultimately, Pipe line road leads up to the Guaje Ridge trail head, the terminus of the third leg. But that's another story.) We are now finally in a forested area:
Time to water the dog and have lunch:
Did a little whittling with my Fiddleback Nessie before heading back:
This nessie is the first handmade knife I bought, and it comes from Andy's second batch of blades. It's fairly compact and has dark rosewood scales. Nice little blade.
Heading back down. Hmmm....it's a long way home:
Back at the 4 runner. Jeeze, gonna have to take off a lot more weight before I'm fit for the Grand Canyon again:
Cheers,
