BF Family Album? :)

Hi guys,

This topic came up as we were talking about Danelle's pics over at the Spyderco Forum.

Think it's time to put a face behind the name?

It can be done in two ways:

1.) House the page at BF, but pics are housed somewhere (not sure if it will help conserve bandwidth, but it should)

2.) House it somewhere, with a link here at BF.

Being around for a while, I feel that the people here are very tightly knit (at least those who are pretty active, hehe) and it would be nice if we have a sort of "family" album, containing pics from the members of BF.

I know there are some who wouldn't agree with this, and that's okay if one has to remain anonymous, but I believe it would be great to see each other, even if electronically.

I might start one using our ISP's server, and will just put a link here. We'll see how it goes.

For those who are interested, please mail me your pics (file-attach, any size is okay) and of course you'll have to let me know your handle here.

If you want me to put some captions, let me know as well.

Any "Family Album's" or other BladeForums.com related activities need our approval before they are done, if for no other reason than liability concerns.

We'd prefer not to have our site splintered off into seperate servers all over the world since there are reliability questions then on several ends.

Before we get this too far underway, give us some time to consider what we want to do.

Okay, I figured this is better. I'll just call it "Knife Knuts" Album or something. It doesn't have to be generalized with BF, does it? I mean, I can just put it there as an album of friends I met over here at BF. I hope that won't need any go-signals anymore, would it?

I had the same idea with the family album. The easiest way is to put them on one server somewhere and just put an url link to it so you wouldn't eat up BF's bandwidth.

Yes Ralf, that's what I'm going to do instead.
I've already created a simple page, and made sure to put a disclaimer that the page is in no way associated with BFC, so there would be no liability or anything, as Spark would put it. Heck, if I had friends on the "other" forum, I'd gladly ask them to put in their face behind their handles too!

But that's next to impossible.

As to reliability issues, we're an internet service provider here in my country, with more than 3,000 subscribers and have a direct link-up with AT&T/Globe. My server is a DEC AXP Alpha running at 566mhz, with over 45gb space. We've been operating for well over 5 years now, so I guess that's also not an issue. Anybody can visit the site once it's up. And believe me, it's reliable.

If Bladeforums decided to actually create one from this idea, I'd take the page down in an instant.

I just hope it's not an issue or a copyright infringement when I put a link back to Bladeforums though. I'm doing this because I want to meet my friends if not in the physical sense, then in the literal sense as Mark would put it.

Friends are plentiful, but global cyberfriends with a common interest? That's something to think about, huh?

If anybody has the creative mind to do a better page, I'd gladly pass this on.
