Back in early December, I sold a high dollar MT grail OTF auto to a fellow reputable BF member (hackbad), who lives in of all places, New York City! So even the thought of purchasing insurance as an extra measure of protection, was definitely out of the question....
Due to the timing (the upcoming Christmas holidays), as well as factoring in covid & the transitional issues facing the USPS, I called an audible at the counter and instead of shipping my package, via priority with signature, I decided that I'd use the knowledge that Super Mod Esav Benyamin so often shared with us, pay the few extra $$$ & ship using: USPS Registered Mail, which has a much higher degree of accountability.
Fortunately for me, my favorite USPS clerk (Suzanne), was working in a small side room (the old passport office), so we had a private room all to ourselves along with her radio & the Country music she always has playing
....instead of being out at the main counter with the 4 clerks in the main lobby. The first thing she told me was: "you can't use the box you packed your knife in if you want to use R.M., that it had to be packed using one of their boxes." My package was already packed solid with 3 types of tape (fiber/clear/priority), so unpacking my bullet proof box was out of the question. Suzanne, came up with the idea, to put my package inside one of their boxes & thus began the 20-25 minute process, of her meticulously packing, taping & stamping every single seam of this new USPS box to encompass mine. USPS VIP Service of the highest order!
And so began, the very long journey/odyssey of this East Coast destined package......
I'll spare the extensive details of the very frustrating (to say the least) crazy month long journey this package took to finally reach it's destination, but I will say this: hackbad, was one cool, calm & collected member to have to be dealing with.
Not once, did he ever complain or start freaking out, like some member's I've seen here do, when their package has gone MIA for just a day or 2. We were in constant contact (2 pages worth of PM's); I kept him abreast of everything I was doing on my end (working with Suzanne & her Supervisor), to finally get this package moving & delivered.

So a huge shout out to BF member, hackbad, for being such a wonderful easy going person to deal with, the amazing USPS employee's at my local USPO in Carlsbad, & to Esav (may he be resting in eternal peace) for all of the time, energy, and wisdom, he so graciously gave/shared with the entire BladeForums brotherhood here.
