BF Native~ Picture posting today

May be before your time Nakano.

Arnold Horshack was a character on the old "Welcome Back Kotter" TV show (long ago discontinued). He used to get the teacher's attention by doing the Oh, Oh, Oh, thing in a most unique way. He also had a great laugh.

Sorry if I broke in here, but I used to enjoy those horshacks!

I can still visualize the show with the guys saying, "Hey Kotta", with their NYC accents! I was pretty young then, but that was one of the "good 'ol shows". Isn't that where John Travolta got his start in his career?

Horshack...hehe.

But, for as good as the show was, I still rather look at a high-res pic of our Native!

So, the next question is: What will the engraving look like and where will it be? There isn't a lot of flat space on that blade. How big will the BF logo be and where will it be placed? Inquiring minds want to know. (Well of course, if they didn't want to know they wouldn't be inquiring, would they?)

Will the clip be the same bright blue? I hope it will have a sort of shiny brushed blue finish instead of a painted blue look.

Gee aren't we all pains.

Would be cool if the BF logo etc. where somehow located in the center of the handle with the bi-direction grip radiating from both sides. On the other hand this knife will be so unique that it really does not matter exaxtly where they put it. Given Spyderco's track record I have no doubt the knife will look great in any form...

Spyderco is sending us a Blue G-10 Natiove next day air. We will take hi res digital pics and post them here on Wednesday.

It looks like my Christmas will be in June, at least as far as goodies are concerned. BF Native, Blade show, and a vacation to the beach! I hope the UPS driver is lucky enough to slip it in my door without me being here. I just have an image of the UPS driver coming to my door and suddenly the door swings open to a large man with wild eyes and a maniacal grin yelling "The Native is here, the Native is here, the Native is here, give me Spyderco, knife now, knife now!" What would I do if UPS stopped coming to my house?

Hey Doc,
I checked your profile, you are fully licensed to speak like that! Hehe. A friend of mine (that grew up in NW IL here) worked in the big apple for a couple of years and she came back with that accent! The first time I heard her say, "would you like some creeeem and shuuga in yer cawfee?", I cracked up!

OK, now I'm officially a knife-nut: excited about low res photo, anxious for high res photo and can't wait to play with the real thing.

Great job all involved!!!

We replaced the pic above with the hi res pic taken in house with our digital camera. If you click on the pic you will get to see the VERY high res pic. Nice huh?

This is something of a test as I have been having trouble posting, but a good excuse for a question, also alluded to above.

Is the pattern on the G-10 going to be the same as the regular Native, as in, very nice?...or is that lost in the change to a better material as- 1 not necessary with G-10 or 2-too difficult with G-10

The grip will probably be what you see in the picture - beadblasted G-10. For some reason most of the guys in here thought it would be better than to have a nice polished handle.
But then, what do they know about knifes....

Yes it is bead blasted blue G10. very "grippy".

Donald, not the same as the regular Native. Which would be imossible to do on G10. the directional texturing on the native is a patented feature that must be built into the mold as each individual surface point is different. It is a nightmare of a mold and we have Pil Gibbs of Camillus to thank for execution (and naturally Vince as well).

That Blue sure looks nice! It'll be nice to have something with blue handles, rather then just black. Great pic also. (once ya click on it)

Sal,
Thanks for the answer. I look forward to the arrival of my Bladeforum Spyderco Native.

Someone recently showed me the Native, which is the reason behind my earlier question. The trouble making the mold was worth it, the pattern really made the knife stand out.

I suspect that bead blasted blue G-10 will do the same!

I also look forward to trying the CPM440V steel.

I went back and told the person about the Bladeforum version...I wonder if he will get both.

Hey Mike, if you still have the proto in house, could you take a photo of it from the top down. I'd like to see how thick the G10 handles are.
