I was at camp doing some work and we got to talking (bragging)about knives.Everyone said theirs was the best, but i knew what i had on me(110 bg-42)was gonna out do their knives.I was challenged by a gerber gator, winchester 110 knock off,old timer lb7,and a sharpfinger, none of them could stay with the 110 ,and i enjoyed every minute after all of the bragging they had to eat their words.I told em' to get buck knives.lol:thumbup::D

Yep,BG-42 is a premimun steel...One day I'll find a 112 re-blade Joe talked Buck into doing a few years ago..100 total 35.00 and customer sent in the 112...I would put her on display, not butcher with..Unless challanged!

Saw your thread title, and w/o even reading the original post, my response was "DUH!!!".

Ya know 'Blades, that's one of those situations where ya just chuckle inside...even before the race begins.

I just smile when someone shows me their latest fantasy style knife or something with a cool clip system and tell me directly, or imply, how much better it is than my 110 BG :jerkit:
My parents taught me to be polite and show humility to show offs and stupid people. But ya know what it is? They wish they had one too ;)
And, quite often, I find that others just don't know...can't knock 'em for that.

Have one of each that your competitors packed. In fact, serveral Sharps. Nothing I have stands up to the HeeBeeGeeBee. The only bitch is sharpening it...but that is something that ya have to do less often than with those posers.

Good for you.

I was lucky to get one of the brand new BG 42 112's directly from Joe himself.I should have got more.
I bought two brand new BG42 112 bucks from someone on another forum, but these were in a collectors tin with sheath I gave those to my two sons for Christmas several years back.I bought them both for$70.One of the best buys I ever made.

great story i have been there a few times myself and converted more than a few of my buddies over to buck they used to say the 110 was a old mans knife but now all but one carries a 110 and i am working one him:D

I was lucky enough to get these from Joe years ago, I can't bring myself to use these.

ARG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes,I would not even DUC one...... Tom I've coveted many of the NICE Bucks you have shared with us over the last 2 years....But of all the pics you have posted that one is in my top 3....I passed up a chance to buy a used one for $125.00..The only one I've seen in person. It was not FG and most likly beat to heck before it was sent in..So few are ever offered for sale. You had to really want one to get one, they were NOT a dealer item...I am considering getting a BG-42 110 later this year..Thanks for posting that pic again!

Tell us about the 'collectors' tin??? I'm not aware of a factory issue 112 with BG-42 steel...As far as I know the only 112 with BG-42 is the 're blades' Details Please!

I'll have my son bring his out,and I'll look it over, and give a report.

Hey Razor,

Great story and like Goose says "DUH", but I'm interested to hear about the competition and what was cut and when the wannabees failed.

The collectors tin has a picture of a blacksmith's hand, with a hammer on it.The inscription on the tin says 100 years of quality buck knives 1902-2002. it also has 100 year collectible set includes Buck 112 ranger 100 lapel pin,and collectible tin.I just had my son to check and it does does have BG42 steel.bucksway if you'll send me an email to this email address I'll forward you the pictures my son sent me.

How did you determine that it has BG-42 steel? I have three of those in the same tin and none of mine are marked BG-42. Is yours marked as such?

Its stamped on the blade. The 112 also has a medallion in the handle, but I can't make it out in the pictures my son sent.I'll look at it in a day or so,and report back.

You may have something special there. Mine have the medallion that says:
100 Years
BUCK
Knives
1902-2002

The tang stamp is just Buck, anvil underneath and the USA. No other stamp.

these two knives with the collector tin were probably sent in for the blade upgrade when it was available.
