That was supposed to read vs. not bs. Why use BG-42 in the first run and then switch to ATS-34? Is BG-42 supposed to be better? If it is then why not keep it?

Dennis, I think it was a marketing decision by Buck. They wanted to kick them off with a flourish. It worked. I got 15 in on the 10th of April and now I'm down to three, (and thinking about keeping one for myself.)

Personally, I would like for them to stay with the BG42, as I think it is a great steel but the plan, still, is to switch to ATS after the first 500.

In reality, with Paul Bos doing the heat treatment, I doubt that any but the most extreme user will be able to tell the difference. I've seen his results on the Strider fixed blades, which are made of ATS34, and it is nothing short of astounding.
