BG 42 vs S30V questions

Hello all. I have a small lefty classic Sebbie that I've had since 2001. I've carried and used it often, sometimes very hard. Anyway my question is this, its time for a refurbish and a blade replacement, how does the new S30V stack up to the old BG 42? I've been VERY happy with the performance of the BG 42 and I've read that some people don't like the new steel as much. What say all of you? Thanks fellas!
 
nothing wrong with s30v.

but i prefer the bg42. i found i could get it sharper and it would hold an edge longer than the s30v sebs ive owned. sadly, i lost it last year.

why do you need to replace the blade?
 
The S30V works every bit as well as the BG. Comparing my BG Sebenza to my S30V Senenzas, I'd say the S30V blade takes a keener edge, and probably holds it better. The S30V is no less difficult to restore.

There have been some issues with the heat treat in S30V... and also in BG.

Don't believe the hype. :-)
 
Ok tsiloics, I guess it really doesn't matter I really need the new blade one way or the other and I don't think I can get another BG so S30V it is.

Morimotom, I'm not the worlds best sharpener and I used my knife really hard most of the time, cutting sandpaper, lots of cardboard, lots of wood. I do a lot of wood working projects for fun. So I've had to frequently re-sharpen my blade and I've sharpened a good amount of it away over the years. Hey I bought it to use right.

War Eagle before you send in the seb, do you mind posting a picture of how the seb looks? I am very curious!
 
I have both. I gotta say I like the Bg42 better. For me at has better edge retention in the sharpness category. For some reason (user related) I cannot get the S30V as sharp as the BG42.
 
Sorry guys I know its hard to believe this day in time but I don't have a digital camera.

Well maybe I won't do it then. I need to but if the S30V blades aren't as good I'll just keep using my good ole BG 42.
 
I love Bg-42

May I ask if you want an S30v blade aren't they gonna give you your old bg-42 back. So you can switch em whenever you want right.
