We like BG-42, but Larrin is correct on limited demand, partially because of the high cost.

We've got more on order (very long lead time), but we've haven't decided what to make out of it. [...] but if anyone into Spyderco has thoughts on this, perhaps we could get a thread going on the Spyderco forum in Mfrs?

How about that D'Allara drop point? I was going to say, use it on a Native with a ball lock, but with the D'Allara, you have a situation like the Military, a proven winner with just the steel to upgrade.

I almost said Endura/Delica for the same reason, but that's a blade shape too close to the Military -- been there, done that.

What about a dodo? I'm not a big fan of the D'Allara.
Also, isn't the D'Allara made in Japan? BG-42 is an American steel, therefore only Golden models can be used.

Usually you have to pick a knife made in America to put with the steel. Set up for a knife made in Japan (or elsewhere) here in the States would be high enough to make the endeavor prohibitive.

true. We would make the piece in Golden.

The Dodo is a great choice, but I have another preference. Some time ago, Mr. Glesser responded to a post I had made asking why Spyderco made great knives (like the Caly 3) that were 3" or more in blade length. (The smaller Spydercos, while great knives, are not exactly upper end pieces, IMO.) As some of you know, there are those limiting legal situations for lots of folks. I asked if a knife with a blade just under 3" could be made with the quality materials and workmanship of the Caly 3 (and other Spydercos with larger blades). Mr. Glesser seemed to suggest that there may be something in the works with either a 2.5 or 2.75 inch blade that will be a higher end knife. Let's think about that as an option...if it's not too far out there. That would make me happy.

And before any of you jump on me, I know the Dodo is a top notch piece with a blade less than 3 inches. But we have to admit that the Dodo is different...that said, I've got a Dodo and it's not for sale.
:)

Well, you did the Military, now do the Para. I would buy one. I would really like to see a Police in BG-42 and something other than stainless...G-10 or carbon fiber, but of course, that's a Japan made knife. Still would like one though.

yeah, the para, it's up for revisions anyway, so let's get some new steel in it too.

As someone who also suffers under the inanity of the 3" law, I like the way you think. :D

I have been looking at a Volpe. In BG42 I would buy it. Different color inlays on the handle like blue, black, orange green and white in addition to the wood would be a +!

MPE

A reduced size Li'l temp in BG42. On a second thought, why BG42 when we have the ZDP blade! I think that is a better blade than BG42, no??

I would buy a BG42 G10 linered Dragonfly/SE in a heartbeat:D

Just keep the lock without the boye dent(not necessary on a knife for moderate use IMO)

And please make the lock play free.

I'm gladly to pay top dollars for a few of them.

Yeah, a Peel Ply CF BG-42 Para-Military would be great! The BG-42 Millie is one of my favorites along with my para.

Very interesting idea. Cocobolo handle would be nice.
Also I would be happy to buy BG42 PE Dodo.(green g10 like Lil Temp, please)

Yep, a reduced size lil'Temp in either BG42 or ZDP (although I think I'd rather have BG) and I'd be in line to buy one or more. That's for sure.

1. I think the first place should be given to Lil'T with Titanium integral compression lock and a BG-42 blade. This was also considered as a candidate by Sal, IIRC. But, could be a remote future.

2. Old Lil'T, G-10 or CF handle, grey or black.

3. MiniManix (or Manix). Would be nice too.

4. ParaMillie. Wasn't it planned to be with a M4 steel?

5. Native. Would be the number one for me, but not in present design. I would wait for an advanced version. I guess, something as Delica 4 handle with double liners, and shape inclined towards a MiniManix, or BM MiniRukus. Probably the best candidate for a Spyderco's equivalent of Sebenza, something like a Spydenza.
Any blade shape is OK, maybe the best would be a high hollow grind.

The present Native is supposed to be a platform for a S125V steel. There is no need for checking BG-42 - a CF BG-42 Millie proved the superiority of the steel and the design. As a matter of fact, the results of the testing was published on the german Messer Forum - the BG Millie won over the S30V even in edge retention. This result should be re-checked, someone as Cliff, because one is testing the same knife, with the same geometry, but different steel.

General remarks.
1. The BG-42 is not a steel for cheap knifes, IMO. It makes sense to make a Spydenza, a high tech folder. In that case, handle should have torx screws, not rivets. Should be either titanium or CF or G-10.
2. One should shoot the BG-42 for Rc 61, as was for BG Millie. Then, the BG-42 shines.
