How rare are the classic BG42 Sebenzas? I have a line on one and it's a bit on the expensive side but I've never seen one before and I was told that they were only made for one year before they switched to S30V.

Also, if I buy it, how can I confirm it's actually BG42 once I receive it? My understanding is that the S30V blades have the letter 'S' engraved on them, so if it's unengraved does that mean it's BG42?

Not sure on how rare they are, but I've only seen a couple. As for marking, on my S30V classics and the blade is marked with wither a C or S, don't have a BG to compare to, but I would assume you are correct in that it would probably be unmarked.

I have one they are hard to come by, they should have a date stamp inside the handle

I have seen a few and missed on a couple of years ago at very good price...BG-42 blades are NOT marked. Hope you get it.

Unstamped blades are going to be either ATS-34 or BG42. If you follow the timeline stickie, then it will be BG42.
I don't know how rare they are, but it seems like BG42 is very sought after and folks don't give them up very often.
Expensive is a relative term when you want something and are willing to pay the price .
Never thought I'd be carrying a 500.00 knife for a work knife, but I do.

BG42 was made for more than one year. They are expensive because they are hot right now. The collectors want them because they are harder to find than the S30V, the users like them because they have a higher RC than the S30 knives.
I would not say they are very rare, but they are definitely commanding some high prices.

Dinokay is that beauty yours? The LDC is rare indeed. Beautiful example you shared with us too.

No markings on the BG-42 and most were produced for the Regular Sebenza design some also made it to the Classic Sebenza but that's about it.

Here's what I would call a rare BG42 Sebenza.

Tried to sell these awhile back but I Guess I was asking to much money for them, still own them.

It's nice to see you posting! Very nice collection by the way..I am envious!

BG42 was used from October 1996 to January 2002. This info is in my CRK History Timeline. There are lots out there. You almost see more of those than S30V it seems.

I believe OP is specifically wondering about Classics so the window for BG-42 would be much smaller.
