I use a 0.5 micron diamond paste from Amplex superabrasives. Its expensive stuff, I believe it was about 15 bucks for a 5 gram syringe. However, it does work very well.

How do you use the diamond paste? Do you spread it on a piece of hardwood or plate glass or something like that?

I spread it on a paddle leather strop. I've also heard of people spreading it on some type of photo paper.
