BG42 vs. 154CM

Is there really a practical difference in edge holding between the two? I am considering two customs, one with the better BG42 and one wit 154CM. The problem is that I like the custom made with 154CM better and BG42 is not offered. My cutting chores are of light to medium duty.

How about a reply from some of you custom guys. Its your knives that I am looking at.

Who cares for edgeholding, if you are able to sharpen?
EVERY steel will wear, so the difference is just "how often" you will have the joy of doing something nice to your knife.
Happy sharpening

this is a good place to see some differences in composition... not that it helps much in making a decision.

i've read on the chris reeve's forum that they are confident with the bg42 thoughness so they sharpen each side to a 20 degree angle. i have a microtech socom with an angle that appears to be about the same. i've never used it though, so i don't have any experience to pass on.

I believe that you would have a hard time telling the performance of the two apart in real life. Get the one you like.
