This is very interesting. I have three folders with BG-42 and have never had any corrosion issues. My favorite Small Regular is my most carried knife and I've never put any kind of rust preventative on the blade. I rinse it with tap water and let it air dry when it gets dirty and I don't have the time to break it down for a proper cleaning.
Do any of you all having pitting issues live near saltwater?
The BG-42 on the Small Regular has also been really chip resistant also. The only chip came when I screwed up and the edge hit a granite paving stone. At the time I couldn't look at the blade for a minute because I was sure my favorite knife was going to have a big chunk missing. Instead it only had a tiny chip, less than 1mm deep.
I must have gotten one with optimal heat treat. I will never sell that knife.
