i was looking into picking one of these up when they were first introduced. but now on the website they are listed for $275 :eek: is my memory playing tricks on me or did the price on this skyrocket??
 
Yes, the knife jumped in price. I was looking at them before the jump, now I am not even looking at it.
 
I came close when it was half that price.
Over 300$ after tax's for 5 inches of 1095 and micarta.

Is'nt top's making the new pathfinder and is it similarly priced?


very bad joke in my opinion, I respect Dave Canterbury and hope he was not involved in the gouging plans.
 
I suspect anything Dave Canterberry/Pathfinder-related will be inflated for awhile now that he's on TV.

Too bad...I liked his site and wares better before it became so commercialized. He used to sell some decent "common mans" gear on his site and now all they have are PF t-shirts. :jerkit:

But hey, if Bear Grylls's maker can charge $700 for his knife, it's not unreasonable for BHK to ask $300 for Dave's. I'd still never buy either of them though.

Amen Wolf! For example, how about something like the Breeden Pathfinder I picked up from you a couple of months ago. It's not just a great knife, it's also a Pathfinder.

Low profile Dave knife was half that $$ now on TV $$ sky rocketed.... Excellent knife & well built but the price loss me :eek:
 
All of Daves common man stuff got moved to canteenshop.com I think. Discovery now owns Dave and I think gets a share of profits.
 
If I remember right, in one of Dave's older video he said that basically Discovery owned his likeness and ability to sell gear affiliated with him. He basically gave his gear business to The Canteen Shop. I would have to guess a bulk of the knife' price increase is going directly to Discovery.

The Pathfinder knife was originaly offered for like $130 and is now $275.Out of 10 custom knives I only have 5 that I paid more than $275 for, Horton,Gossman,Edmund Davidson, Trace Rinaldi and a NWA.All way better knives than the Pathfinder! There is no way I would even think about the Pathfinder knife at it's current price.Just my 2 cents.

He should be ashamed, so should BHK if they went along with the gouging. BTW - why is this is gear? Should be in W&SS.

EDIT - Just saw that this got moved from W&SS. Seriously??? Since when does a thread about a specific survival knife NOT belong in W&SS?? And instead goes in Gadgets & Gear? I think there's about 200 more threads over in W&SS that are also going to need to be moved if this is now the case.

First off...you do not dictate what goes where. The Mods do. Secondly....It was accidentally moved to G&G when it should have gone in General knife discussion.

The topic is on the price and not specific to the use of the knife in a W&SS situation.

Clear enough? Cuz' I'm getting really tired of having to move off topic stuff out of W&SS and putting it where it belongs.

Yes the knife seemed to go up in price after the show.

WOW!

For roughly half the price I got my Swamprat Ratmandu.

It is a good knife but that price is outa line. I have picked up handforged customs for less money. For far less I could pick up a BRKT Manitou as well.

While it is a good design I don't think the price reflects what you are getting. I.E. better knives available for far less money. Which is too bad cause I relly like the knife's design.

Ken - I stated everything as a question, no dictating here. I agree that general is probably the right place for it based on your logic.

Moving on - It does seem there are a ton of threads always getting moved out of W&SS, but in my opinion it's because anything other then primitive skills are deemed off topic and are moved.
