I have been looking at the BHK Pathfinder knife for a while now. What are your thoughts on the knife? Pros and cons. If you have pics, that would be great. I'm looking at all of the Pathfinder series, including the Scout.

Thanks.

Tv has gone to Canterbury's head along with BHK.......

275$ is way too much for a 5in blade of tool steel IMOP

You can get a similarly sized knife from a lot of the makers here for 50 to 65% of that price, with no loss of quality or craftsmanship. With the advantage of custom designing to your exact tastes. Culberson, JK.......lots to choose from.

The BHK trade knife for 100 looks like a decent knife for the money, probably their best bang for the buck.

Unless you want to pay for the name I would keep shopping.

I like the looks of the flat ground one quite a bit but I can't bring myself to give that guy any of my money.

I agree with the others. Many makers here will be delighted to make a custom for less than that. I've wanted to try one for quite a while too, but not for the money. Devil Dog Knives is selling a knife similar in size on Fiddlebacks forum, for half the price.

I have and like the BHK scout colt but I have to agree, that just seems like too much money

Have to agree, I like the knife and love Blind horse knives but there are many makers here that would make you a similar knife of equal quality for much less money !

I didn't think BHK makes the trade knife? Well anyways I gotta agree that the Pathfinder is a bunch of coin. I like BHK just the same.

TOPS makes a Pathfinder knife using Dave Canterbury's name. I agree, the BHK knife is pretty expensive. I am looking to buy a truck right now, funds are tight, but I do have some good customs and can appreciate quality. Gossman, NWA, Laconico, Idaho Mike Mann, BHK.

Skills are, and should always be, a priority. I am long on knives and short on skills unfortunately.

Let's hear more thoughts on this one. I don't know if I would buy it directly from BHK, but maybe used at a lower price, or definitely trade for one.

I'd pass myself and get their woodsman pro instead - $160.00 is a much more reasonable price

I own a PLSK 2 and a PLSK spear point. The knife has been very lightly used, and for the $150 that I paid it's OK. Frankly, I bought it because the BHK guys are commonly at some gun shows I attend, they seem to be good guys, and I liked the Pathfinder logo (this was before Dave had numerous companies making knives for him). The spear point is unused, and to this day I'm unsure why I bought it. Another gun show impulse buy I guess.

I've handled the PLSK 1 and, to me, it isn't worth $275. I've never seen the Scout in person, but it looks interesting. Still, we're talking $250. Now that I've scratched my Pathfinder logo itch neither hold much interest. There are a lot of options in that price range...

I'm not certain, but I think Habilis makes the Trade Knife.

Got this, the March special coming tomorrow, can't wait:

Looks nice. Similar to this knife I designed and had JK make.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ I ordered a phoenix also and have had it for about a year. it's a killer design and priced much better. I like the BHK pathfinder but it is very expensive for what it is. you could also get with bryan breeden on here. he is making some great stuff for killer prices.

I personally love the look of the BHK pathfinder and the size is the exact size I prefer for a outdoors knife. But I too agree that $275 is just too much. I do like a couple of the other BHK knives but none of them look even half a s nice as the PLSK1. I would also suggest several custom makers here on the forum who have awesome products with good prices. Just a few off the top of my head are AA Forge, Hargis, Tobin Smith, dfarmerknives, BattleCreek, or check the websites of Fry custom knives, ML knives, Canyon knives, CJSknives, and so many others. There are just so many out there that I'm sure you will now be torn on what to buy due to all the great suggestions you'll get from everyone. I think Canyon knives will have something that tickles your fancy so you should check them out, he's got a really nice gallery showing his models and some of them have their prices listed too. Well, I hope this helps you in your search.

BHK definitely does NOT make the $100 trade knife! The best bang for the buck is catching one of the monthly specials form BHK. They're always on sale, first 100 have a special tang stamp, you just have to wait 30-45 days on them.

I've got a tiny little bushcrafter I got from Dan at a gunshow for $40 last fall. It was worth it. I got to finger Dave's knife & trust me, for that much, you can get a Swamprat Ratmandu, a sheath to your liking by any number of craftsmen here on the forum, & a good bottle of booze to sip by the fire...
