Another thing that can be done to keep the button from being pressed...

Remove the safety, the metal band that covers the striker wheel. Instead of discarding it, the tail end of it (that's normally hidden inside the lighter) can be inserted into the crack between the button and the case which prevents it from being pressed down.

Cant remember if this works on the regulars, minis or both.
 
Not really- The zip tie doesn't have to be extremely tight. I use 4" ties and get 'em snug enough so they aren't going to slide off accidentally. To remove the tie, you just have to push it up an over the top. No cutting required and can be replaced.

BTW, the 4" zip ties don't work on the mini Bics. On the full sized ones, the plunger under the button is exposed and there's a gap between the plunger and the metal part it slips through to prevent the button from depressing. It's not exposed on the mini's so you need something that fits exactly between the lip of the button and the body. I have some 8" ties that work great on the minis though!
