I've recently scavenged a pile of old bicycle chain from my father-in-law's now defunct bike shop and I'm wondering if anyone has ever pounded some of this stuff into blade fodder before.
If you weld it up in a canister with 1084 powder it should be fine. I have done motorcycle chain and chainsaw that looks cool. Doing it by itself I would worry about the carbon content.
Carbon content is my main concern here as it is the big unknown variable. My only clue about Carbon content is it seems to rust readily when exposed to the elements unprotected. And that is not nearly enough info to make a decent guesstimate.
Excellent link! Thank you very much! I hadn't seen that tutorial before but I've seen some of the maker's work and he is a VERY inspired and imaginative bladesmith.
