Bidder ID's

hummmm... i have not found it either but i seem to recall it was Couger Allen the supper dupper wopper mod that said it...
i know nothing ... must be the mad cow....

Ackkkkkk! I sure hope I have totally misunderstood what's going on here and there isn't anybody using Bladeforums to set up an illegal bidding ring and defraud people who sell at auction. I posted something about that once before: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4008838&postcount=71

I repeat, DO NOT use Bladeforums to organize a bidding ring or anything like a bidding ring or any kind of cooperation at all that tends to defraud people who sell at auction of getting a fair price.

Sellers are human beings too, just like buyers, and they have rights.

This is my take also... It only saves me money when I'm outbid ;)
BUT I hate seeing a knife sell cheap (that I would appreciate) and then the same knife gets relisted the following week for X amount more. I am in this for collecting not for greed. ...That point is now moot though, and with the possible shilling I dont frequent the bay much...

well i agree with you much on the resellers...
i have seen some buy then wow it dont bring what they paid for it later!!!
at one time i was kinda not for dealers...
but on thinking on it relised that if i buy a knife that i have already and the new one has the stuff like box paper work ect and sell the one i have with out
am i a dealer or not? does this happening more then a few times make me a dealer...
i have bought and sold to several of my BBBF ... i have not taken advantage of any of them...nor they me...
i jest bought one from a bbbf and he delivered it to me at the show...
we all buy and sell as our collections change ...
i dont like privet listings or that bidders are hidden
but it is like LosV ,,, sure the game is rigged ...
most will not win
but you could!!!
so i am like many if i sell i would like to get the best price i can ...
if you want it more then me bid it !:D

OK coug', but since I was one of the ones discussing it, I do want to say for the record, that this was not what I was intending. What I was talking about was simply a way to not unintentionally step on each other, not price fixing or anything of that nature.

Take care,

I don't know what you meant by "not unintentionally step on each other" and maybe I'd better not think about it too much, because ...

If a group of people agree, tacitly or explicitly, that if one of them bids on an auction the others won't bid on that auction, that would be a conspiracy in restraint of trade and also could be considered a violation of the RICO Act. (By the way, the RICO Act doesn't require that the conspirators ever communicated with each other -- if they're acting like it's a conspiracy that is sufficient. The prosecution does not have to show anything but that for a conviction.)

I'm afraid there are people doing that, here and there around the net.... Sometimes they don't really think about what they're doing. They think of it as looking out for their friends, maybe even as making a sacrifice (the times they're not the first one to bid) and even think of it as being a good thing to do, helping out their friends, and never give a moment's thought to what they're doing to the seller. Whether you think about it or not, though, if you do that you are conspiring to cheat the seller out of his fair price. NOT a good thing to do. It's unethical, it's illegal, and if you organize your conspiracy on an open forum in full view of law enforcement it's also very stupid.

You might also consider that even if you have never sold anything at auction yourself, one of these days you might. Put yourself in the other guy's place. If you've never really thought about what you're doing before, think about it now.

I don't know what you meant by "not unintentionally step on each other" and maybe I'd better not think about it too much, because ...

All I meant by that was someone causing hard feelings by accidentally out bidding a fellow forum member, because they didn't know who it was.

Nobody here was suggesting any organized price fixing or other illegal behavior.

well i will say i know what you are trying to say BCCL
and it is a most kind thought to think of your fellow BBBF that way...
i have personal experance on someone not bidding on a item and it is not pleasent..
and cougar has a good point...
if and when i have to sell a knife i want the most i can get for it..
dont realy want to have to sell any of the bucks that come in to
Buck Home for Lost and Negleacted Buck Knives
as i love every one i can get!
i sell only if i have to ...
and if i have to sell i do want to get the best i can...
but will cut a BBBF a deal on shiping !...

now that said i dont like the hidden names either as there is shrilling and some times grudge or revenage bidding to make another buyer Pay!

open with nothing to hide is always best...
ebay is doing this because they think they are looseing money on sales...
a lost 1$ fee is going to break them ? ... woopie they all going to die! ;)

Hi All,

If you do a search you will find an old thread with a list just like you are talking about. We were told by the forum god's to stop doing that as it was a violation here. It was in-line with posting links to live auctions...but in reverse.

I also agree with Ron and Larry...but try to not bid on my Pal's....some times though you have to fill a hole in your collection. I also hope no hard feelings were or are felt.

However, I did and do take exception to folks who buy up everything just to re-sell it for a profit....well that's just to bad for me because all on-line auctions are set up as free enterprise and I can participate or not ...it's my choice (I don't like Bill Gates; But, love his products...a little different...I know...but.....you get the point).

The only thing that I don't like about this new system is that it makes it much easer for the cheaters to start plying their trade. Let's face it some folks are just dishonest and will do what ever they can get away with. I don't like it that I can't see that the price is getting driven up by a bidder with no history (shill)....In addition, I used to take a look at someone's bidding history who was bidding against me as I could often tell how much they may be willing to bid based off their bidding history; it was just a tool I used often.

jb4570
jb4570, I've noticed when I traffic on e-pay my computer gets all kinds of spam mail and my credit card company has to issue me new cards because of fraudulant charges. Theres also the parasite business people who don't insure purchases against loss or just out-right take your money and don't send the product and the site owners won't help you.
There really needs to be a new site addressing strict parameters for a tasteful business experience. DM

Dave,
I also sell as I feel necessary. This wasnt my point. Buying, selling.... most do it. Its the few that buy JUST to resell.

Again the point is now moot, noone knows who is what when bidding.
I stay away ;)

well i am glad you were not mute on that point...
and yes i see some doing jest that... buying and reselling it two weeks later... i watch for them and
there is the good bad and uggggley here were you or any one can post that they are a "pro re-seller" and charge acordlingly...

some time ago before i found the forum and relised what good guys all the BBBF's were , i at times, dreamed of buying and selling and getting my bucks for free... i think we all have thought of that greed thing at times...
if a bro wants what i have to sell i will cut a deal...

i will say i have not had any ghost charges on my pay pal or any one bidding under my nick...
i have had some issues with pay pal but several were my falt as i did not read every thing...

i would not be so much on ebay but there are not many places here to look for knives...

WV is known as a hunting state so any thing like that gets gone fast or it is marked up and still there tell some city fool comes along...too many time they will asked what is it worth and wont name a price.. and most times i jest want to walk away... or tell them i cant buy it and sell it at the same time it... if they persist i tell them i have to have 15% aprasal fee... if it gets to that i leave quickly so i dont catch any thing like stuped bugs

so far i have been taken only once on not getting a knife from some one and he is gone from ebay... that and the guy in england...250 total inc shiping...

heck i had twice that dissapear from my hide'n hole here at the house!!!

only two things for sure taxes and death... all the rest is up for grabs..
