Big Blade for Buschcraft?

To me, It seems like your set-up would benefit much more from a good brush clearing blade. You've got the chopping department covered, and you already have the saw for some of the other stuff, then you've got the smaller FB and the folder for more detailed work. The only gap I can see is in the machete department. If you want a machete that can chop, go for a tram bolo or a condor golok or even a BRKT golok if you are wanting somthing a little nicer and more compact.

Search the secondary market for a Koster Survivor, they are not priced too differently from the other high end knives that have been suggested.

Cold Steel Trailmaster, in Carbon V if you can find one. My favorite beater bowie...other than my TOR from Fallkniven.

Trailmaster is a good choice, and if found used can be bought really reasonable:thumbup:

Yup, I just got a Stainless one too, and I really like the looks of the convex grind, I just have to go out and test it out. Gene

Doug - DP knives has a real beaut going on right now over here. I haven't owned his knives but have handled some. This one is some of his best work IMO.

His Mountaineer model was also just dropped in price. Looking like good stuff to me!

Walter Davis - is now the W&SS Bowiemeister..... This one hasn't found an owner yet, but sure it won't disappoint!

Hey Snow Is that a Bark River Smatchet ? I've been wondering about them, I seen them for Sale but no one put's any Spec.'s on the Knife, What's the Spec.'s on that Beauty ? That's Nice Thank's for showing a picture,

Yeah it's the BRKT Clax. There are a few stores that have them. They are pretty huge. The blade is just a hair under 10" and it's about 16" overall. The blade is almost 3" across at the widest point. It's fairly heavy, maybe a pound and a half? You're right, exact technical info is hard to find. I had to grab a tape measure. If you want any more info, let me know. Here are some more pics to tell the scale:

Yes, I've seen them several places for very reasonable prices. I don't know if its just that they are not as popular as other BRKT knives or what, but they seem to be something of a bargain considering their size.

I'll second this recommendation, but you might want to check out a Brian Andrews modified Ontario from Off the Map Outfitters or a Bark River modified Ontario from Knives Ship Free.

Question for ya-

My trailmaster is marked Made in USA, with no designator as to steel type.

One side simply says- Trailmaster

Other side says- Cold Steel USA

Black sheath identical to yours, with the addition of a plastic loop at the bottom for a tie down cord.

Any idea as to type of steel?
