HI all,

Looking for recommendations on a large knife to cut small limbs off trees for kindling, and other small cutting chores around my yard and woods. I am looking for something that is not as big as a machete but can handle some abuse. I am looking to spend around $100.00- 199.00. If I had my way I would get a busse for my yardwork but I dont think my wife will be on board if I buy a knife that costs more than my Stihl! Thanks in advance!

I'd say battle mistress, but you said no Busse. What about a scrapyard dogfather? It's in your price range.

You might want to consider a Browning Crowell/Barker Competition Knife, since it has done well in my minor endeavors.

If you want to go less expensive, you can find older made-in-India kukries on sale at various places. I have a couple and these to well for chopping, also.

I would check out the Himalayan Imports forum to learn about khukuris. Many of HI's models would work very well for you.

Additionally I would look at a very inexpensive but extremely handy blade made by Gerber/Fiskars called the Brush Knife. These things are tough as nails and will take just about anything you throw at them.

Spyderco/Hossom Forrester. Can be found at $129 IIRC.

I beat the heck out of my Ontario SP-8. Great price and will leave you some change for a nice folder or the like.

Matador-

Ontario Military Issue Machete.

I think mine cost a whopping 20 dollars.

I have beat the snot out of it and it works great.

You don't need a Busse to attack a sapling. Last time I checked they dont fight back.

I'd say- go for one of the smaller Condors. They can take care of business.

They won't break the bank, either. I have both of the knives in the image, and they're both amazing. Those are the combat machete, and the jungle bowie, btw.

How about the KaBar large bowie ? Usually sells around $40 and you how crazy them Ka-Bar can be :D
