Hi

Since the bk9s are drying up and the alternative are quite expensive, I consider making one or get one made (or partly made)... well, you see where I'm going with this.

For a big bowie/light chopper in Becker/Swamp rat/ranger style, what would be the best steel?

Your ideas?

Also, am I wrong saying that a convex grind would be adequate?

Thanks

Scrap Yard Knives is soon to relase their first chopper/bowie (no doubt it will be in the magical "two weeks") or they already have the scrapper 6 avabile, my dad got one, it is rather sweet, it's made of SR-77 (S-7, jackhammer bit steel.

check it out.... http://www.scrapyardknives.com

52100 or O-1 are great choices if you do end up making your own

Ok, so ¼'' thick O-1 would be fine?

I also tought of Micarta handles, wich seems to be the standart for that type of knife.

About the grind, am I in the good path for the convex edge?

Any other comments or advices?
