Big Bowie
Up for sale today is a large full tang Bowie made from .265 inch thick 5160 carbon steel. This is a massive piece with a blade 8.8 inches long 2 inches wide and the overall length comes it at 14.8 inches. This bad boy is differentially heat treated with clay to make a wavy hamon which took me a while to figure out in 5160. Simple steels like 1080, 1095 and W2 take a beautiful wavy hamon realatively easy. Steels like 5160, 01 and L6 will also show a nice temperline but seemed to always work out strait no matter what I did until recently. My wavy hamons in 5160 still lack the clouds seen in W2 and 1095 but who knows maybe someday I'll get that figured out too.
The tiger stripe maple handle fits full and comfortably into most hands making chopping and hacking chores easy. A heavy brow 8/9 ounce leather carries the Bowie and is set up for right hand carry.
Price: $200 plus $13 shipping.in US.
