Well, actually, lukewarm out of the annealing can. :p This is my next attempt at a southwestern bowie and this one is a bit bigger than the last one. W2, blade is 12 x 2 x .340, whihc is a hair under 3/8 at the ricasso. It is heavily tapered but it still weighs a ton. The tang is over 5 1/2 and will be threaded for a buttcap. Deep clipabout 4 inches long and a fairly prominent belly. Wish me luck. i hope i don';t run out of 36 and 40 grit belts rough grinding this beast:D

Wow,Joe,that thing is a beast!!:eek:It looks great-I can't wait to see the finished product:thumbup:

Very good looking blade Joe! Just take your time and it'll turn out great.
Thank you, sir  This one is going to have some pretty good sized bevels on the clip and the trick for me will be getting them flat. I anticipate a lot of time filing:D

Man , thats a dandy Joe  Very nicely done. It looks like you darn near forged it to finish. It shouldn't take too many belts to finish that one up. You better post finish pics bro ;)

Your bowies are just getting better every time. That profile is what I see in my head when I think big bowie.

Not quite. The edge is stil like 1/8 thick. I could have gotten it to 2 1/8 wide and possibly as much as 2 1/4, but I would have been tempting fate. Forge thick and grind thin:p

That is going to be a really slick knife when it's done  . Can't wait to see the finished product :D

Sweet looking blank! God I want to start forging...

Its not that hard im 22 and jobless i help my dad with side jobs to buy all my stuff. right now i basicaly have a forge i bought off ebay a peice of railroad track as an anvil(gift from my friend mace), and i got some files. its really really fun an addictive.

Problem is I live in a community with sound rules so before I could get the second heating done, the cops would be knocking.

Awww that sucks. Yeah i live on a small lake with a very tight community... but i just moved here so every one hates us and my neighbor cuz were new any way so yesterday i made lots of noise. cut a new log down to size for my track fired up the forge and did some hammering with my brother. here where i live in connecticut you can make as much noise as you want till 10pm i think as long as its on your property.

I'm thinking if I fire it up in my garage there wouldn't be an issue...as long as I did it daytime and early evening which is when I usually have time anyhow. We'll see. I just invested in the my other shop stuff, another $1000 for the forge, hammers, etc. may have to wait awhile.

I'm waiting for my new batch of 120 grit belts to arrive , so I knocked it down with the 36/40 grit ones and threaded the tang. What a PITA that was... Plunge cuts turned out fine......so far, so good:D This ugly sucker either WILL be done for Blade or it will be in the garbage can by the end of this week......lol

Looking good,Joe:thumbup:  -and if "in the garbage can"you actually mean a box with my address and plenty of postage-then by all means put it"in the garbage" :D :D :D
