Who's into big camp knives? What do you have, wish you had, etc.

I'm in the mood for a big camp knife and don't know what to get. Any suggestions?

The best camp knife I have ever used or owned(still own) is a George Lainhart designed UC SEAL Machete. This is made from ats34 and RC58, Birdsongs Black T coating and neoprene handle. It is big, it is heavy but balanced really well and there is no distal taper to the blade so it is stout.
Never owned a UC prod. or since this one. I have owned several camp knives but always use this one and/or take this one along with a very old Plumb Boy Scout axe. That about covers it for camp stuff for me. I usually have a belt knife too, most likely a CS Master Hunter. keepem sharp

The biggest knife I "sortive" have, is the rukus. I just ordered it today but unfortunately I really won't have it for a few days. Besides that I pretty much have small folders. BTW, I have a stupid question. Does three day shipping include the weekend? Will it really be five days instead since I ordered late today?

Take a look at the Bark River Forester, incredible knife. I've got one and love it.

Finnish leukus are excellent camp knives, too.

Look at the Ranger Knives Ready Detachment ("RD") series. If you want a big camp knife that will handle anything, check out the RD-7 or RD-9. The RDs are very tough -- made from 5160 spring steel.

Great knives for the money, backed by an excellent warranty, and the best customer service I've experienced in many years.

I AM INTO BIG CAMP KNIVES.......and yes I was shouting that. dont know why just love em. I have ALOT of em including busse, sog, CS, CRK, BK&T, etc. and I have a few customs. One of my best choppers is my FSH by busse and my Custom bowie by Matthew Roberts. Both very diff designs and are both used diff. I love Tool Steels like W2, D2, O1, etc.(I know i missed a bunch you guys know em) and then there's INFI which I love as a chopping/heavy use steel. I wish I had alot of diff knives I would like to get a few from Jason Knight and Adam Desrosiers and there's so many others who make great stuff that I couldnt mention them all. I know small knives can do alot of things theres just somethin about havin those big 9, 10 inch plus blades thats sooo cool.

I have a few that I use.

A bk9, knifeware kampr, western w49, linder bowie, RTAK, laredo bowie :D

My big camp knife is a Himalayan Imports Ang Khola. I got the smallest one at 12" over all length.

I have one I made for myself, but the two factory versions I like the most are the RTAK and a carbon steel Western Bowie. If they had convex grinds I like them more.:D

I would like a Cold Steel Trail Master made out of san mai 3 stainless steel. But for 300 bucks it's more than i am willing to spend on a large knife.

I love em.
I currently have a Swamp Rat Rat Daddy & Battle Rat, as well as a Busse ZTBM.
I will be getting a HOGFBMLE as well, when it is made available.

I'm a huge fan of the BK-9 Combat Bowie. I'm not sure how one would use it in combat, but it makes a terrific camp knife; durable, sharp, and big enough to tackle just about any chore I can think of (except skinning game!). I've been toying with the idea of getting a second version, removing the coating, hand rubbing to a satin finish, and adding cocobolo scales and a leather sheath.

You guys are giving me lots of ideas...thanks!

Does anybody know anything about the Marbles Trailmaker?

Thanks,

I have the BK&T BK-7 and love it. When hiking, I like to carry my Kabar Large Heavy Bowie (1095 steel and 9" blade) . Although made in Taiwan, it seems to be a quality knife and for $40 how could I go wrong.

Try anything from Swamp Rat. They are great knives with a great heat treat. hard at the edge, softer at the spine for lat strength. If you break it, I doubt you will at 1/4 inch thick, they will replace it no questions asked. The Busse family hit it out of the park with these knives.

I use a Swamp Rat Battle Rat for trimming small limbs off trees in my yard. Cuts great but fatigue comes quickly due to the weight of the blade.
