Big campknives???

My favorites are the BK-9 and the H.I. 16.5" WWII. There have been a lot of good choices suggested in this thread.

I AM INTO BIG CAMP KNIVES.......and yes I was shouting that. dont know why just love em. I have ALOT of em including busse, sog, CS, CRK, BK&T, etc. and I have a few customs. One of my best choppers is my FSH by busse and my Custom bowie by Matthew Roberts. Both very diff designs and are both used diff. I love Tool Steels like W2, D2, O1, etc.(I know i missed a bunch you guys know em) and then there's INFI which I love as a chopping/heavy use steel. I wish I had alot of diff knives I would like to get a few from Jason Knight and Adam Desrosiers and there's so many others who make great stuff that I couldnt mention them all. I know small knives can do alot of things theres just somethin about havin those big 9, 10 inch plus blades thats sooo cool.

You *really* need to try one of HI's khukuris then. A nice 16.5 or 18 inch WW2 or Ang Khola will light your fire. Fantastic warranty, some of the best choppers and performers around. Very inexpensive, also. What's not to like?

I use a Swamp Rat Battle Rat for trimming small limbs off trees in my yard. Cuts great but fatigue comes quickly due to the weight of the blade.

How quick is "quickly" to you?
Minutes? Hours? Days?

If you are getting fatigued by a relatively light tool like a battle rat, you should work at building up your arm strength and endurance, technique. Not that I am He-man, but I consider the Battle Rat a Light chopper.

All of these are good suggestions, but allow me to plug the BK&T BK-9 Combat Bowie. I have one and love it; what you hack with it stays hacked. I've stripped off the coating, and plan on painting it in International Safety Orange one of these days.

I'll 2nd that. Mine is a chopping demon.

I bought a heat treated unfinished blade from Bobby Branton on BFC. large camp knife A2 steel, I think it's 14" over all, (don't have it handy to measure) Came out real nice. I polished and polished. Black Micarta handle, I was trying to find green but nobody had any at the time. Chops pretty good and stays sharp.

Since there seems to be a little BK&T love flowin' here, I'd like to chime in with my personal choice, the BK-5. It's a Fisk design, doesn't look real flashy... but I really "get" it's design. I sent mine off to Mr. Fisk and had him put a "scary sharp" convexed edge on it. So far, my busy sucky life hasn't allowed me to go camping in more years than I care to admit... but when I do, the BK-5 is coming with!
