A while ago I made a big harpoon point Bowie and posted it here (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1404332-Harpoon-Point-Cutlass-Bowie). A forum member messaged me asking if I would consider making another one like it, or something "similar in size and awesomeness". To me that is just about the perfect design brief for this kind of knife, as it allows me the freedom to get creative and try some new things.
This is what I came up with:
The blade is 12.75" of differentially hardened W2 tool steel, etched for a dark, bold hamon. Although the blade is around 0.3" at the ricasso, it has significant taper, and feels lively in the hand (an area where this ones predecessor fell short).
The guard is forged mild steel with a blued finish (more hours in that guard alone than in most small knives). The handle is a nice piece of Ringed Gidgee, with a copper spacer and a domed and polished copper pin.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks for looking!
