Hey Everyone,

Zorrro, our friend from Spain, has sent in an awesome tutorial on building a big deadfall to Klippe. This being a survival forum, and the deadfall being a survival technique, I thought you'd be interested.

The pictures are pretty self-explanatory, but if you like, there is a full writeup with seven photos right here on Klippe. Actually, we're the first English website to host the project. If anyone else has a project they'd like to submit, please just go for it, or e-mail me your pictures/video/writing at funditor.info@gmail.com

Have people here made any big deadfalls, or ever hunted with one?

good god were the preditor at.:D that is very cool was working on my snares to day.

Not to offend anyone, just want to give credit where credit is due.

To my knowledge this trap was invented by John McPherson, at least he published it a long time ago. There are other good traps in his books. A few that I have tried worked very well.

I recommend his books.

And long before then, someone somewhere, probably invented it as well :). Such is the cylclical nature of things.

The most disappointing of which is when I invented the Tralfamadorian philosophy. A friend says, "hey you should check out slaughter house V" and so I do. Already done. All thoughts are unoriginal.

On that note.... I'll have to look up some of John's books :)

Hey! I didn't know about this guy! I thought I was about the only member from Spain. Mmmm I tried to check the members list but it is disabled so i can't find him... Let's hope he shows up here and reads these lines.

I guess that knife is some kind of VILLEGAS MODEL (those look like cheapos to me... I have seen more priced ones). There is a ton of threads about that knife in the ARMAS BLANCAS forum. THIS is one of them.
You can have them with the sawback, without the sawback, with the bottle opener sort of hook in the spine, etc.
I don't have any myself but in ARMAS BLANCAS everyone seems to have one (just like the F1's... lol) and they like them a lot. If anyone is interested I could try to look for some more info here in Spain.

I am not sure about who invented it, but you are right about it being in John McPherson's book. Primitive Wilderness Living & Survival Skills: Naked into the Wilderness

I must say though, that the trap itself and how it works is explained here much better than in the book. This is partly due to the multiple pictures.

He's actually not a member on BF. Interestingly, you can find him on Armas Blancas. His name is Canis Vulpes over there and is a moderator in the survival forum. On knifeforums, he goes by Zorrro.

Thanks a lot CanDo! I know Canis Vulpes from ARMAS BLANCAS and yes, he is the moderator of the survival forum. Truly a nice guy.

Here's what he has to say about his knife:

It's a spanish knife known as "villegas knife" or also "guerrillero knife" it was a design of a Special Operations officer named Vicente Diaz de Villegas. It was used in S.O. survival training but never officially issued... it served as the basis of the officially isued "Aitor cuchillo de monte" but i think the Villegas knife is a lot superior knife than the later.
It was intended to be a survival and fighting knife as well. the knife pattern now is made and sold by some spanish brands... this one is made by Cudeman wich is the one i like most cause this model has no back saw.
