Big folder: BM Rukus or Lone Wolf Harsey T2?

The handle of a Military too thin to be comfortable?? That's the first time I have heard this.
Yep, 'tis true - the Millie handle is too thin in its cross-section in my hand. That was disappointing, 'cause it's right in the size range I like.
There were some quality issues with Lone Wolf knives, so if you order one online try and see if the dealer can inspect it for you.
That's good to know, thanks for the heads-up :)
too bad the harsey has zytel handles, they should have stayed with the original linen micarta.
They have some in cocabolo and some in I think it's English walnut. That one is beautiful in the pics!
Only significant problem - not good protection against sliding up on the blade if you have thrust the knife into a hard or resistant surface. Its a cutter - never a stabber.
Uh-oh! I hate knives that don't offer sufficient forefinger protection from blade-slide. Bummer... that may push me towards the Rukus more.

Thanks for the responses, guys! I really like the looks of the T2 in walnut or cocabolo; if the front guard is too weenie, though, I may have to avoid it...

I disagree about "sufficient protection from sliding up on the blade".
I have the Walnut handled T-2, beautiful knife, light with the titanium liners, and good ergonomics with adequate finger guard.
If you want to stab (and how many of us do that?), get a fixed blade.
Get the T-2.:)

I have handled both at Knifecenter.com. The Rukus is a nice folder. You won't be surprised by any of its features really, due to its similarity with other BM axis lock knives. As far as blade design it is great. A nice flatish ground blade with a very sharp edge. The handles are well done and thin enough to use over long periods of time without too much fatigue.
The Lone Wolf Harsey T3(The big one not the T2) dwarfs the Rukus but isn't really any heavier. It didn't have a clip, but came with a sheath. The handles looked to be micarta. The build was outstanding and the blade was way sharper than the BM out of the box. If I was going into the field I would have a difficult time deciding which knife to choose. For lock safety the Axis lock is superior although both knives locked up tight. However that being said the overall knife design of the LW appeared to be better. You are better off buying both and returning one after you play with them, if you can afford to do that. As far as the regular LW T-2, it is also very nice. I know there were problems with some of the older ones and bad QC from the factory, but I believe that was fixed. LW is definately a company to watch. Nice knives.

haha, now I'm swinging back towards the LW T2; the full size is probably just too large for comfortable pocket carry. I really like the axis lock, but the Rukus just doesn't have the same siren call to me (right now). Hmmm... I'm thinkin' I'll get the walnut T2. I'll let y'all know what I decide. I do like the idea of buying both and returning one, though...

I'm a newbie here and have been looking at the Harsey folders. I really like what I see, especially with the wood handled models, but the only thing that really turns me off is that big pocket clip. I would prefer a lower riding knife with a clip that is a bit narrower. Does anyone know if there is such a thing? The Rukus has the exact type clip I want; low riding and it looks like it would be very hard to spot, especially against dark pants. AND.....it was that fact that led me to order a Rukus. It should be here on Monday!! Man, am I a happy camper!!:D :D :D :D :D :D :)

Rukus has a removable and reversable clip (left or right side). T2's clip can't be removed without leaving a large sharp edged post exposed. I see the use of clips, but I don't use them and hate how they make the knife feel in my hand so removed it from my Rukus, and on the T2 I used a Dremel to cut the clip off and round it so I could keep that "post protecter" end on the knife... a pain, but worth the effort.

The T2 is far easier to pocket... and a great utility knife... but I just have to reiterate, after fairly extensive testing into resistant material, with and without liquid on the hand (pumpkin guts, in the test :barf: ) I do not trust the T2 (nor an Al Mar Shrike) on a resisted thrust. If you think you will ever need that bit of utility, the Rukus (tho a really large knife, let's face it) will never let you down.

I personally think that the Rukus has the win on lock design by a longshot, but the T-2 has a better blade. The thing about the T-3 that I love is the secondary lock on the top that stops the liner from disengaging. If they put that on the T-2, then I believe it would be the overall winner. Both are very nice though, so you actually win either way you go. I still think the wood handles are really nice and that pushes the T-2 design over the top for me too.
