Big Folder that "Carries" small(er)?

Hello All:
I made a mistake - Sold my Strider AR, just never carried it, too much of a pocketfull, and I don't like belt carry. This was an older AR, with the flat slabs. But already this week I've missed it - a big pile of cardboard to cut up for recycling, and only a 3" blade around. So, fine folks, what "big" knives out there are relatively comfortable to carry? Need a folder, with a 3.5"- 4" or so blade. Something with a design that makes it pocket friendly - be it clip design, scale contouring, overall shape, whatever - as long as it's a good carry, and built for hard use. Nothing full custom, or too pretty to be messed up by real use. The Kershaw ZT's look interesting, as do any of the newer Striders with the more rounded scales. So, anybody have experience with these, or any other larger folders they'd like to share??
TIA,
Greg :D

What didn't you like about the AR, the width? If so, the ZT 300 series will not be for you. But really for a good sized folder, I would suggest a Manix. Other larger more ergonomic ones are the Skirmish, and Rukus. Or even a Lone Wolf T2.

Those are mostly pretty massive, like the AR. I suggest you look at the Spyderco Military. It has the big blade and the proven durability and performance but it is lightweight and very flat for easy carry.

You can get the Military in some excellent steels these days, too. S30V is standard, but the new D2 and S90V are available, and you might still be able to find the BG-42 carbon fiber.

I put my Military aside for the time being to carry my new Boker M-Type, which I knew would be good but turned out to be better. :)

I would suggest the Benchmade 710 or Spyderco Military.

If I had a choice I would carry the 710 but the military is just so damn light.

It was more the overall thickness (blade+scales), than the width. Combine the thickness and the width, you have a "blocky", squared off profile when viewed on end. looking for something a little "curvier".... How are the ZT's on thickness?
thanx

About the same as the Older AR, not as thick as the new ones. That why I suggested the Manix and others, much thinner in pocket and hand. When I switched out the AR for any of them, (well, not the Ruckus, that thing is long) I kept checking my pocket to see if they were still there!

Yup, Skirmish is on my list, glad to hear it carries well. I'll take a closer look at the Manix and Ruckus. Been many years since I've had a Mili, may be time to revisit that, too, especially with the better steels now. Never a big fan of the Police blade shape, just doesn't look "beefy" enough for such a big knife. But please keep the ideas coming, it's always fun to look for a new blade, especially with a little cash burning a hole in my pocket... :D

Rukus is great! Axis lock is awesome.

the SOG Pentagon Elite is also a great folder. Arc lock, very smooth.

If you are looking at customs.

I suggest a XM-18 (3.5inches), Fraley Torrent (theres a 4.5 inch version), or the Q36.

All are awesome.

Millie; Skirmish; Rukus.

You cant go wrong with any of them.

For best comfort carry i would say the Millie. IMO The skirmish is quite heavy and drags the pocket down bit and the release stud of the axis lock digs into me a bit, when in the pocket.

But all 3 are great knives.

The BladeTech Pro Hunter (not the "lite" version, ironically), like the Military, but probably even more so, is a super light, easy to carry, yet sturdy, large, hard-working folder. Give it a look.:)

I'm really liking my S90V Military. Big knife that you can forget is even in your pocket, and the steel holds an edge better than anything else I have tried.

The 710 carries very small for its size. The Blade Tech RIJBAK also carries small for its size. Have fun in your search.

I'll make it easy for you. Go here and order this Kershaw, put it in your pocket and forget about it until you need.

one more vote for the military
I usually carry 2 folders, one of them being ALWAYS one of my millies
