Big folders.....

Jerry Hossom is working with Ontario to produce factory versions of the Phallussy. I think they will be very popular. I read the blade steel will be CPM 3V which is the best blade steel available IMO.

Please tell me this is not a joke!

When and how much?!

You just made-a mah day Chuck!

Lone Wolf "Harsey Ranger"
4.87" x almost 3/16" S30V
10.5" OA
Ti liner lock
Double Ti liners

(Then there's the WWII U.S. Navy Survival Kit Knife. 4 5/8" saber-ground, locking clip blade with double steel liners and bolsters. If you can't stab enough, it can be used to beat 'em to death.)

I love big folders. I have been carrying either a X2 Voyager or a Cuda Maxx 5.5 as my EDC for a while now. I just got my Maxx 7.0 and that plus my X2 is now my EDC. I think the CS Voyagers are excellent knives for the money. I wish CS would start to make a 7 or 8 inch Voyager. The X2 is more comfortable to carry in the pocket than even the 5.5 inch Maxx, IMHO.

Why not just carry a sword? Anyway, I second the Blackwood Skirmish. The Benchmade Skirmish is the smaller version on the Blackwood custom. If you like the Benchmade but want something bigger, then you will love the Blackwood. :)

If you want something in the same quality class as the 630 you really need to look at the Camillus Maxx and Aftermath. They're as tough as you could ask for, but carry quite easily.

as far as big knives og try a pat crawford perfigo, its pretty cool, or for production go for the cuda maxx in 5.5 or 7" versions, or the surefire alpha, its a big one.

i dont like FRN handle knives myself, ya cant really compare a FRN cold steel to a BM w/ti handles, imho,

Whoa....the blackwood is bigger??? Damn! I would have gotten one instead of the benchmade if I had known that.

Ahh! But there is still time.....

Man, you've got bigger pockets than I do :D That knife should be sold as a short sword!
Not so big as deep, in both senses of the word. :)

Not only are they big, but like the Camillus Maxx, they are sleek, and fit in a pocket nicely. Even a small hand can hold them comfortably.

Be careful with that X2 Voyager though. I found it cannot take the beating the Vaquero Grande will, even though it looks so much like it -- exactly the same handle and blade steel. The hollow grind is weaker than the VG's flat grind.

rs422, thanks for the picture -- great comparison! The Aftermath really swallows up that Skirmish.

STR, that's a great picture also. I use a VG chopping off branches along our nature trail, for years now. It's amazing that it holds up so well. It's pretty comfortable, too, no hotspots.

Sorry about that. That D2 is not easy to reprofile. But once you get it sharp, it will hold the edge. I keep one in the kitchen for food prep and general household utility. It is definitely a big favorite.
I like the edges on both of my CUDA MAXXs very well. They are not so razor fine as the edge on a Spyderco, but these are huge knives and can be expected to be used for more heavy duty work than a Spydie Military. I suggest to you that this sort of use requires an edge that tapers more quickly, if you follow me. That gives the edge more support and makes it less prone to chipping or to denting.

I consider the Crawford Wortac I have as a mega folder even though it only has a 4" blade. The weight and overall size of it make it pretty big, but not one bit uncomfortable to carry. The BM Skirmish and Cuda MAXX are both thin enough to carry w/o a problem. The Ontario knife mentioned above will definately deserve a look. I'm really trying to hold down purchases and only getting those knives which I think I will definately carry. Not buying just for the sake of buying!!

Thank you for that link, Owen. 'Twas very informative. I'm just a little disappointed about the folders being S30V instead of 3V. :(

Imagine an overbuilt Hossom folder with an S3V blade. Mega folder Nirvana for me. :D
But it isn't a major disappointment as I've been rather pleased with the S30V on the Spyderco Chinook II and the Dodo. That Chinook II came out of the box hair SPLITTING sharp.

I'm excited about this because for years I've seen and admired Jerry's work at the Guild Shows and the idea of those great designs translated into a production folder, to me, is a great reason to celebrate. :D

Thanks for the info gentlemen!

The Retribution is definately gonna' be a hoss....liners will be .100" and blade thickness will be .200" on the large model!

Least we not forget the large folders that Phil Boguszewski makes :D
There is the large Asp,King Cobra, and the large Classic all of which come standard with 4 1/2" blades.
I have a large Classic that I had Phil strectch out to 4-9/16" blade that is awesome, and one of the best quality knives I have ever seen. It has a BG-42 blade, orange peel bolsters, and mine has maroon micarta scales. It was so big, and heavy that I had Gary Graley(G2) forum member here make me a beautiful sheath for it so I can carry it horizontal.
Sorry for no pictures as I am not a gold member so can't post.
I have a collector Bladeforum's Sifu, Camillus Aftermath, and Cuda Maxx all with over 5" blades!! Oops almost forgot a Dalton Assassin auto with a 6" blade!!
I like Art Sigman love those "Mega folders".........
These I have, and the others mentioned above make for a good selection out there to buy.

I almost forgot about my Nogales bladed Voyager. Here it is side by side with my Vaquero. Both are 11" + in length opened. This Voyager is one of 500 that Cold Steel offered when they were discontinuing production of it. You an barely make out the number on the back side of the blade. Number 251.

It has the same flat ground blade as the Vaquero and a intergrated pocket clip that allowed them to make this knife so thin that it feels like a much smaller knife when carried. You'd never know it is such a big folder thanks to the design.

I've tried to show a shot of the thinness of this Voyager compared to the same size Vaquero. I really like this one but don't carry it much as I'm afraid of losing it since it can't hardly be replaced anymore. Actually I don't carry either of these that much anymore as both are no longer in production. For some reason CS only makes the VG, the LV and the MedV now. I believe this one was the Larger Vaquero when it was made but have lost track.

Both of these knives have 5" blades.

The second shot shows three button head screws I installed on my Vaquero so it could be reversed for a tip down carry if I wanted. I thought I'd like that better but in the end went back to the tip down. Which I had to install also because originally this knife came with no clip. It had a velcro nylon vertical horizontal sheath that I still have. Cold Steel sent me the clip at N/C when I requested it over the phone.

STR-

That's really cool. I guess I never saw that Voyager when it was available since it looks so much like the LV. Now I'm going to have to look around and see if I can find one of those for sale.

****As for my opinion on the Mega-Folder issue. I think most of the knives mentioned would fit the bill nicely. I must say though that I do find myself carrying my Vaquero Grande more then my Aftermath and Sifu. For some reason I'm drawn to it. If only CS would make a VG with Ti liners and scales of Carbon Fiber, Micarta, G-10 etc. with an S-30V blade (plain edge for a change ;) ). I would be on board and I think we could get some converts from the FRN shunning side.****

I was going to show my Merc-Worx Atropos, but I came across my BIG folder. Yep, it fits in the pocket of my 5.11 pants :D

I'd still like to see a pic of the MW Atropos, some specs, and what you think of it. I've liked the design from the first time I saw it! :)

O.K. Artsig, you would like to see the Atropos.
I will tell you, I like this knife, it packs alright in the pocket, and it is one very impressive four inch blade!
If you are at all interested in the next size smaller, let me now, I know of a brand new one for a great price. Here is the Merc-Worx, on right, pictured with my Microtech LCC.
The MW has BG42 steel, Micarta scales, Titanium liner, and Bolsters.Dual Thumbstuds, and the knife is a liner-lock.Pocket clip also.
