Well I went and got 4 pieces of the "1075" mentioned in another thread. Im am not positive it is 1075, but, the guy at the steel yard, whom I know from his stocking our racks at work and from the Northwest Blacksmith Hammerings around here, says it is. He says they got it in a couple bundles as salvage from a pulp mill that changed its process for cutting paper rolls. THE FLATS ARE 4"X 14ft and are 1/16th. They are not annealled (so says my bandsaw blade LOL) and grind kinda hard with lots of small sparks. I am going to take some to work and see if I can get it PMIed and see what it is for sure. I suspect that it was already heat treated and the mill was simply putting an edge on it as I worked there as a contractor on several projects and saw nothing to indicate their ability to harden and heat treat. It acts real springy and doesnt want to actually bend. The edge seams good and doesn't fold over. Almost like a band saw blade. Possible 15N20 ? Anyway in the mean time I tried it out and it seams like great steel. My new Big King fillet knife. 12 1/2" over all with 8" of cutting edge. The wood is an unknown hardwood a cabinet maker gave me. Seamed a good fit for an unknown steel I did not heat treat it and it seams to be a good edge.
