I have one of those too (its the same as my gerber gator II combo - I have both)
Blades around 7" have left a bad taste in my mouth so I've hesitated to do the 'jack of all trades' thing anymore. [QUOTE/]
Me too - I think that size 7" is not big enough to take on the chopping role, but still big enough to be inconvenient for small carving and such...in otherwords it has the disadvantages of a much larger blade, but not the advantages - a poor comprimise. Anyone else with more large blade experience agree / disagree?
I also agree. I bought a BK-7 because of all the good things I read about, here on the forum, but I am not overly impressed, and it's not that I don't like Becker - my Machax is my all time favourite blade. I agree with above - too short to be a good chopper and too long to be a convenient size for more detailed work. This, of course, is just my opinion - no disrespect to those of you who own them and love them.
I probably should have bought the BK-1 when I had the chanceor maybe the BK-9. Here's hoping that Ontario starts to make Beckers.
Doc
Yeah, I mean if you wanted a chopper than a bigger knife is a better choice. But thats why I liked it so much, its right inbetween. I've taken down the edge some and it cutz very well, It has a little chopping ability and for taking down the odd sappling, I like it over an axe or larger knife.
YMMV, this is just me![]()
