Hey all, I'm just wondering if there's anyone here from southeast Georgia. I've taken a new position with my work and they are moving me and my family down to the Brunswick area. Fairbanks, Alaska to Brunswick, Georgia is obviously going to be a HUGE change for us and if there are any makers in the area I'd sure like to connect with them.

Thanks :)

A LOT warmer, my man. And, strange as it may seem, perhaps not quite as many biting insects, but still plenty to go around. :D What is going to really mess with your mind is the 100% humidity you will see in the July-Septemeber timeframe. Make sure your AC is working.

Bout 4 hours north of you in South Carolina. JDM is on point... Winters are short. Jan and Feb are the coldest months.

What are you moving to Brunswick for? It’s not exactly the hot bed of society... of course I was only there for a few months for training, so my knowledge is admittedly limited.

I think what’s going to mess with you the most is how flat it is... highest point for miles around is a bridge that goes over a river...

That is true. I you look at how far inland the fall line is in MIDDLE Georgia, you realize that the coastal plain is durn flat!!!!! In South Georgia, I don't know if you get to anything that you would call elevation until about the time that you hit I-75.

If you were there for training, you probably answered your own question ;)

I was there in '07 for four months of academy training. Flat, hot, and humid. But the job posting is worth it :)

SouthEast Georgia is below the gnat line...

For most people I would suggest you prepare yourself for flying insects the likes of which you've never imagined. But I've heard the mosquitoes in Fairbanks are pretty epic too...

The "good" news is that the Golden Isles are ABOVE the old yellow fever line (if that is any consolation.) That is why prior to us learning how to drain swamps, kill skeeters, etc in Panama, all of those rich folks wintered in places like Jekyll Island and Thomasville, GA. One the disease problem was solved, they moved south to places like Palm Beach where it doesn't really get all that cold. But some robber baron descendants still own their hunting plantations up around Thomasville, Tallahassee, etc.

Oh good lord yes...

So lots of makers in Georgia, but maybe not so much in the Brunswick area huh? That's a bummer.
