Carl Schlieper in the recent past has manufactured some large folders under it's "Eye Brand" name.
I'd like to show 10 that i have collected. The top knife in this picture is a 4" Schrade/U.S.A. 8OT pattern in the form of a "Buffalo Bill" commemorative knife from 1976 (i think). I use this 4" knife in other pics for size comparison as well.

These 2 Stockman folders are 4 3/4":

Note the blades are not the same:

Here are 2 Double End Jacks on the same 4 3/4" Stockman frame; aka Texas Jack or Moose.

Please feel free to post any of your big Schliepers to help support this thread.
I'll post some bigger ones soon, hopefully after a few others 'show up'.

anyone know anything about this one?
tried on Bernards but not much interest.

I have to agree with Falah there Roland...lovely bone on lovely knives...I have a soft spot for Carl Schlieper knives...I ( used to ) own a lot of earlier fixed blades...desperate times took desperate measures, and I sold a lot of my fixed blades ....but I have seen the light...and forever into traditionals may I stay!!...
Meako...your knife is a fixed blade from the 60's era, someone has had the knife apart, as the "military" guard is on back to front
Here is my latest Carl Schlieper..a later model one, not too sure of the year, but its a big momma...heres a few shots of the knife-I must say I just love the Stag on this beast of a knife!...

I have a few of those big 'uns. They are HUGE and a real handful! Beautifully made and like all Eye Brand knives they take a razor edge.
The sort of traditional sliipie that Indiana Jones would carry:D

Thanks for posting Roland........If I have a chance later I will get mine out and snap a few pics.

Duncan, the 99DS is a great knife. I love mine and have been using it for many years now. It's one of my most favorite of all my knives. As Steven says, the older Eye Brand non stainless steel gets very sharp and holds it's edge through thick and thin.

Here are 3 even larger 'Moose' pattern knives. At 5 3/4" closed you need to actually hold one to fully appreciate how big this size is. The 2 stag handled ones are branded A.G.Russell.

The blades on the Eye Brand one are different from the ACR offering:

The other difference is the thickness of the blade stock, the "Eye Brand" one being thicker, a real brute of a knife:

I've never used a folder of this size but with the excellent edge holding they would make a fine field dressing knife, even though they are bigger than you actually need for the job. Maybe they were intended for big African game ?

I forgot to include the 4" Schrade for comparison. The 2 blade Trapper is 5 1/2" and the Hunter is 5 3/4".

customs010-5.jpg

This Trapper is very nice and a handful. I did not take a pic of the recently made Hunter in the open position. Although there is nothing wrong with the knife, like all of the more recently made Schliepers, it somehow lacks the impressive in-hand 'presence' that makes the older ones special.

Coming up next "Mr. Bigz". Stay tuned, he's worth a look !

Its a Carl Schlieper knife "CARL SCHLIEPER SOLINGEN GERMANY"
The tang stamp appears to be a peacock or rooster or maybe an eye.
It belongs to good mate-was his grandads who was from Norway.
NB it is definitely the biggest of the Schliepers on this thread so far.
cheers
Well, it's not a Folder. What's the branding on the tang ?

That is the "Fan" logo, mainly used on Schliepers for export to Australia and the Far East.

Hey Rick, "gmen" ? You mean like Girlyman" ?
I thought they carried Bose, umm, in a purse that is.

Thanks for that info. Do you have any idea of its age?
I'd hazard somewhere between 1950 & 1970.

I don't know the dates for this logo but i believe it has not been used for some years. The dates you give for your knife i think are about right, maybe closer to the 1970 end, but that's only a guess.

At first glance I thought this was a display knife. Whoever owned this before me used and sharpened it. It's 8 3/8" closed and 15 1/4" open. It has the strongest snap. The handle houses a tooth pick and tweezers. The photo has a 3 7/8" Schrade stock knife for comparison. I tried to carry it but my pants kept falling down......Barry

Barry, i thought my 5 3/4" Schlieper 'Sodbuster' was the largest they had made but yours at 8 3/8" dwarfs mine. It's as long closed as the average Fixed Blade. They really did have a fascination for Big folders.
Here's my biggest Schlieper and it really is a beauty. 6" closed Swing Guard with rock solid lock up and not even a hint of movement can be elicited in the guard. Open it feels as solid as a Fixed Blade knife.

That's it for pics of my big Schlieper folders. If you have an impressive one, please post for us to see.
