I sold my kiln to a friend the other day, and was installing it in the basement of the business she moved into not long ago. I noticed that when they remodeled the place, a bunch of old fluorescent light fixtures had been torn out and were just stacked on the wall down there. Got to thinking about it, and asked yesterday if they were up for grabs. Long story short, I ended up hauling home ten commercial 4" 4-bulb ceiling fixtures, and a bunch of bulbs! Awesome!

I've been retrofitting another decent outbuilding on my place as an auto shop- just put in a rollup door, have a little wood stove lined up, and now have a TON of lighting to install. It will allow me to free my knife shop up of auto tools, and some of the woodworking stuff like the table saw, big compressor, and wood lathe that don't much get used on knives. And, I can get in out of the weather and rebuild my two motorcycle projects and the 22r in my '87 Toyota 4wd.

Just wanted to crow a bit. Now I get to outfit yet another shop building! BTW, 2 inches of snow yesterday...

Congrats! There's almost no such thing as too much light in a shop. I put up another 4' over my main bench last week and I'd still like another. It's not so much that you need a million lumens, it's just that shadows are the enemy of fine work.

You can keep the snow :p

When my father closed his business I got a big stack of 4' flourescent fixtures .Kept what I needed and gave away the rest .Made a lot of people very happy !

Long time no hear. I've been wondering what you've been up to. Mid October snow, hmmm...sounds like your shop space will need a little more than just the visible light spectrum. Stay warm!

I had something simular happen to me at work. Also free fluoresic lights :)
They were labeled: Made in West Germany, so pre 1989 :D
