I have to say a big thank you to my little rag-tag team of misfits who helped me re babbit my 50lb. Little Giant today. Bill H, Larry T, Mike Spangler...his bro in law Paul...and of course my old buddy Aldo.:D You guys all freakin Rock!!!
We didn't quite get her running today...but we sure did try.
Thanks Guys!
Mace

Mace, I can't speak for all of us,so I won't, but, I sure had a great time yesterday. This was a great learning experience, being involved in disassembling, cleaning, inspecting and preping a 70+year old Little Giant Hammer for re-assembly.

Aldo did a great job pouring the molten babbitt into the bearing journals. The way the liquid metal flowed into the journal area, whew, it sure seems like he has done this many times before. The man has talent

She'll be one heck of a thumper when she's running.

Was a most fun experience :D

See you Friday at Derrick's.

Good to hear!

Congratulations on getting it up and running, finally. Does this mean that you're ready to start on my integral battle bowie?:D

Congratulations, Mace!
I have my 50# out in Nebraska at the moment getting a full rebuild. Next Spring - April I think - Little Giant will be having a re-building class, like they do a couple of times a year. It only cost $70.00 for the class! This will teach ALL of the things to look for and head you in the right direction of fixing just about anything that goes wrong on your machine. Well worth the taking the class!
The owner - Harlan "Sid" Suedmeier -who has been running Little Giant in his retirement, is not going to be rebuilding hammers forever! One of these days, he's going to quit, and his daughter, Keri, will be pretty much just running a parts replacement business for the hammers, but it won't do any of us any good if we don't know how to fix our own hammers!!
It's something you might consider for next Spring.
It's great to have good friends who can jump in and help on a project like this.
Where's the pictures??!!??

i second what larry said. it was a damn good time. helping out a good friend, company was awesome. food was great and the project was kick a$$

let us know if you need us back for finishing it up.

then its my hammer:D

where are the pictures!?

And now since you've all got power hammers, be sure to let me know of any for sale in the area =P
