Big snow storms

2 feet of snow with high winds
lost power yesterday at 8 pm and got it back at noon today
just got the Internet to work
had to wake up at 5 to dig the generator out of the garage to fire up the furnace
and took me 4 hours to clean the driveway
the kids had a blast
and i need a drink

Im just outside of chicago and got about 24" with up to 4-5 foot drifts and 60mph gusts. I drive a semi and we never close EVER but we ended up closing because with all the wind and snow it was pretty brutal.

We got about 9-10ish inches. Took about 2 hours of hard shoveling to clear the driveway + a turn-around spot in my front yard. Had a blast out in the snow today. Good times.

this is the side of the driveway he is 7 year old

Thanks for the well wishes guys. We live right along the I-70 corridor in Illinois. It was all ice here. Last we heard about 1940 folks without power in 3 counties round here. We are doing ok. Have all the camping stuff out. Been cooking playing games with the kids. As long as the pipes don't freeze we will be good.

No snow here... just lots of ice all over the roads.

Pretty strange to get temps in the teens the entire day in this part of Texas... (about 30 minutes south west of Fort Worth)

Some of you are from harsher climates than myself, but this was a pretty epic storm for SE Wisconsin...

It lasted more than two and a half days. It sustained the conditions that are shown in the video for more than 13 hours straight. At times, it was dumping 3-4 inches of snow per hour, with wind gusts above 55 MPH. When it was all said and done, we got more than 20 inches of snow, and the wind was causing snow drifts of more than 8 feet to form in spots. The roads were impassable. The entire region was pretty much shut down. My girlfriends dad is a detective, and they were all told they could go home, so even the police were shutting down to some degree.

All schools, state government buildings, a majority of businesses, and just about everything else was closed. The governor declared a state of emergency to get assistance from the National Guard, and when a state of emergency is declared, vehicles that are normally not street legal, like tractors, snowmobiles, an ATV's are all legal to drive on the roads.

It was a lot of fun to play in... although it took a few hours to dig out this morning.

This was my first winter in Illinois and it wasn't so much all the snow but the driving wind that was so brutal for me. I'd never experienced lightning and thunder during snow before either. The drifts in the back were over my chest but luckily people are paid to clean up the driveway, sidewalks, and street for us.

We got hit with 12 inches of snow in less than 24 hours which is sitting over a sheet of ice that formed first on the roads. We're going on Day 3 of no school with overnight temps hitting around -10 degrees tonight. It will creep up to a high of 18 degrees tomorrow. Good times.

60 and sunny here today (Lynchburg) ... had to use the STL (Sun Tan Lotion) :D

Don't be hatein' now ! (LOL)

Here in SE Michigan, we got 15+" of snow, and it was in the low teens last night and this morning (probably zero or below with the wind chill). But it warmed up to a comfy 25 deg this afternoon. No biggie so long as the power doesn't go out for very long! After that, I'm looking for my ESEE Fire Kit.

weather here sucks big time,in the teens in the a.m. afternoons 20's ,-5 w/windchill ,Ice everywhere Glad I just bought a Toyota 4Runner 4x4 :)

Im just outside of chicago and got about 24" with up to 4-5 foot drifts and 60mph gusts.

Same. Shoveling for three hours was not very fun.

Edit: They just said on the news that there will be -20 degree wind chill tomorrow. Fun Fun!

That's all soo crazy to mee.

We've got an overnight backpack snow trip coming up and it's totally out of my safe zone, any tips for staying warm and dry when spending two days in the snow?

Wicking layers. Work on warm over dry. Make sure you protect your vision against glare. Two are warmer than one. So huddle when at rest. And wear cap to preserve body heat.

Never rush in snow. Be very deliberate about testing where you're walking. Get a sturdy walking stick to test suspicious ground.

we got around 30 cm here.Though the high winds piled that up 2-3X that high.the worst part was I snapped a pin on my atv plow so i have to improvise with a socket extension until i can get to town for a replacement.

^^ what part of canada are you located in bladebuster?

26kms west of Toronto. I am not that far from you actually....just go east and go past 2 more city but not past Etobicoke - you get the idea. Nice jeep by the way and cb ears looks good at the back....Larsen I supposed.
