Big Southwest Bowie in Damascus

Ken,
Sean gave me one block of stabilized and one natural, this Bowie has the natural. The stabilized is darker, I think from the resin. As I mentioned, my Master's test knife with natural Gidgee hasn't varied in almost four years. 'Bout all the help I can give on the subject.

Thanks all, for the comments.

Fantastic piece John!

The damascus really makes this bowie a stunner!

I've been doing my handles with a 0.010" step for about 7 years now and I love the look... not just the "security" it gives for handle movement.

I had seen it on Tim Hancock's work but didn't know how to do it. Mike Vagnino explained it to me over the phone after I had been at his place the first time and I've been doing it ever since.

In fact, there was a great debate on this forum several years back because I had done it on the ferrule and pommel ends, and the (misleading) photo of the pommel end made it look like I just hadn't matched the pieces together very well.

Personally, I find it ten times more difficult to get an exact 0.010-0.012" bigger handle to ferrule than it is to just sand them down flush... but maybe I'm not doing it right!

Thanks for sharing John! :)

That's exactly how I feel about it.

John - very impressive piece. Big blade and bold pattern work very well here.

Beautiful work John! I like the stepped assembly on the handle. I've done a few that way myself, and plan to do more. I'm glad to see that the method has gained acceptance.
