BIG wold boar hunting knife

Andre, here's a pic of the knife I was telling you about. 3/16" thick by 1 1/2" wide S7 steel. It has an 8" blade.

I knew there was a reason I liked you! Good looking pigsticker you made.

This is a great thread. Thanks for the pics. 500jefferyDK, good luck on your next hunt.

Your knife is way cool and a good strong drop point.
8 inches is enough don't get me wrong, it will do the job. It is like with guns you sometimes feel more secure with more power or edge. I will hunt anything with a good 8 inch blade like yours. :)
I like the guard very safe and the handle looks nice and the texture also very adequate. What is the handle material?? micarta? And most important how much ?? Kudos to your knife. :D

Regarding the larger 9 inch plus blades. You must be good with your knife when handling and hunting with a large blade. To handle a large blade right under extreme conditions take skill and practice and knowing your knife in balance and capability is very important. Swing it around in the back yard or take some lessons in knifefighting - Escrima, Kali, Armis etc.

The rifle is from Heym´s custom shop made to my specifications. This rifle WILL do the job any day, anytime, anywhere and on anything that walks the earth! :D :grumpy:

PS this is Juan handeling my rifle.

Cheers,

André

Andre, the handle material is impala jigged water buffalo horn. I guess it's kind of become my trademark handle material. I don't see many other makers using it. Ron Hoods knife has it and he was extremely happy with it when it was covered with blood and when wet.

That knife and this thread are both awesome!

Agreed Mr Ginshun. Howdy Heads. long time listener first time caller here.

Did some time in New Zealand. Went pig hunting there once with no luck. Scored some feral goats though. Remember a New Zealand pig hunter zine with a yearly Babes and Boars calander. Classic stuff!!! It was official.

Anyway moved to Florida recently, where there are plenty of opportunities for hunting pigs. Can anyone put in a plug for hire for a rookie?

Excellent thread and great pics! One question, could a Rhodesian Ridgeback not do what this breed of dog can? I was under the impression that ridgebacks pack hunted lion, keeping it at bay until the hunter shot it. They are also used frequently to hunt boar, as they have been for some time now.

Someone with more experience please chip in! :)

Not having done this..........yet:D I was under the impression from talking to experienced knife hunters that the pit bull is used as a "catch" dog which actually grabs holt of the hog while the hunter moves in for the kill. Their powerful jaws are like vise grips.

We hunt pigs with knives and dogs down here in New Zealand. It is practically an iconic sport here....typically we run 3 different sorts of dogs, finders, bailers and holders....A good pigdog here is worth many thousands of$$$$$.....FES
