Bigger than a Rainbow Trout

Are those Red Snappers? Them's the BEST:thumbup:

A couple of guys caught black snappers, but I'll stick with my red snappers. When I paid for snappers in the past, I always went with the red snappers.

Those look good, what's your favorite way of cookin' 'em?

Baked, grilled, pan-blackened, fried... I'm not picky.

Is that a Busse fillet knife?

Hand ground by the janitor himself.

GREAT CATCH , THOSE SNAPERS ARE A LOT OF FUN TO CATCH . DID YOU USE LIVE BAIT ? HOW DEEP WERE YOU FISHING ?

Bait was varied. Everything from pinfish to squid to some cut bait to the occasional live bait. Fishing about 150 to 200 feet deep.

Great catch... I've been itchin' to get out fishin' myself... Cabo Blanco is about an eight hour drive from here, famous for giving inspiration to Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea (and is quite possibly where he wrote it), as well as the world record Black Marlin at 1560lbs. Maybe it's time to take a little vacation...

What part of the Gulf do you fish ?

We left out of the Redneck Riviera (aka Panama City). Two of my uncles and some assorted cousins do a yearly trip, and I've gone along the past couple of years.

I'm in the Mountains of Montana, and they certainly are not as pretty as a Rainbow,or Cutthroat or Brown or Brook Trout. They probably eat better, but the trout are nothing to sneeze at.Caught ten Cuts and Browns last night.
Sent them on their way to be someones happy time later.
Randy
Ps thanks for the pics.

Pardon my ignorance, I'm not too familiar with salt water fish, which is which in your photo? It looks like there are four types there...

How do you find the Busse for filleting? I imagine it's a bit stiff? I recently picked up a Helle Fiskekniv and a Puma Steelhead, hopefully I'll be able to give them a try next month...

Snapper is one that I never release after I catch. ;)

So I say the eating part. Hell I have even bought some snapper before:eek:, when the catching wasn't so good.:grumpy:

Of course! As Ahnuld was heard to say: "Why deny yourself some pleasure?"

Snapper is wonderful -- and Guyon's catch looks good to me.

Next time you're in Hawaii try some 'pink Snapper' or Opakapaka. Absolutely one of THE tastiest fish I've ever had...and I've eaten fish everywhere.
