So Ive decided to screw a piece of 1/4 steel to my current workrest to make a bigger one. I know alot of makers have done this or something similar and I was thinking somewhere alone the lines of 12" x 4". Does this sound good to you guys who have done this already? Before I order a piece of steel figured Id ask you guys first and get some input. Thanks in advance.

I just put one on my KMG and it's about 18" wide. You probably don't need it that long but in case you grind really long blades. I though about tapping holes for screws but I decided to just glue it on. It's holding up fine so far.

The only way to find out for sure is to give it a try. You will know pretty quick if you like it or not. I have a few different size rests for different applications. If it doesn't work for you for one thing it may shine for another.

I sometime use one that's about 4"x10" and I just use a "C" clamp to attach to the old tool rest.

I took a work rest off a miter saw and installed it under and in front of a KMG. It can be adjusted up and down as well as in and out and tilt. It offers a lot of different set up options.

My table is about 4x12 or so.

Stick it down to your current table with a couple pieces of good double sided carpet tape and see how you like it.
