i consider that blade to be enough justification for strider to put out a non use orientated "fantasy" blade at least once in a while. as with most of the places ive worked, as long as you do your job well, you can have as much fun as youd like. the new folder is everything i wanted in a folder (and still do... but i now cary a very very small fixed in its place), flat ground drop point, s30v, thumbstud (and hole), strong locking mechanism, good heat treat.

its a nice thought to think that people buy knives solely to use them, but sometime things are so pretty (to the people who want them) that their use is like feels wrong.

in this case, its eyecatching, and thats all it needs to do. (and even though that is the case, it is probably a very functional knife, if you were to say, cut it off just after the blade catch (on the blade side))

Just an observation that seems appropriate.

The martial art school where I study teaches many weapons,
including swords, spear, staff, and some exotic looking ones.

Fifty feet away across the common, another storefront contains
a game shop that has a day & evening open gaming area.

I've always found it interesting, but not really surprising,
that, AFAIK, none of those teens & young adults
(who 'look' like our school population
& who usually game as characters with weapons)
have ever shown any interest in our school.

AAAMOF, I have seen several of these people walk past
and 'turn up their nose' or openly laugh at
students practicing with weapons.

The 'fantasy' & 'reality' worlds are very seperate things.

Some good points here. I really was just trying to make you laugh. I can't really see how someone could take this blade seriously but the way Strider markets their blades would make you think it is the knife of all knives! That is one thing I don't like about Strider and I think it is one reason their forum here is but a memory.

I guess I collect some weird stuff as well. I've walked all the train tracks in northern Colorado and collect as much stuff as I can that is just lying on the tracks. Metal stuff like spikes small sections of track, cable a small train wheel engines parts, gears you name it I have found it! I then clean up the parts and put it in the collection. I even have a full ore cart with mini tracks and all! How bout that for odd? I have enough steel around here if I ever get my forge going I'll always have the steel to work!

Chris, your post made me laugh.:) BTW If you still have that chunk of S30V and Micarta ;) laying around, I would be willing to take it off your hands.:D

SkagSig, you got me to thinking. I have been exploring through a bunch of mines in Southern New Mexico. I have seen ore cars and even found an old miners hat with a leather mount for a carbide lamp. But the rails! There's a mine here with 26 miles of tunnel. I going next weekend and bringing back a bunch of iron. Maybe one day when I get up the gumption and courage, I'll try to make something out of it. I have a bunch of the little rail spikes from the same mines. I tacked them together, sort of like a tripod and then used them to display minerals collected from the area. Looks pretty neat.

Now that sounds like a good time! I'd love to be able to explore those mines with you, I'd be in heaven! Some old mining rails are acctully worth some $$. Rare 30 lbs rails can sell for $20 or more a foot. Miners would sometimes keep a small spike with them from a rick gold mine for luck or bring it to a new mine in hopes that the spike would make it a rich one!

Chris, we found a bunch of neat minerals, some of which we sold to a rock shop for a good price; made a bunch of college kids happy. :) One of the mines, called the Iron Queen, produced high grade iron ore and was in full production through WWII. I remember one large boulder of magnatite where we used to eat lunch. This thing was as big as a Toyota Corolla. You could throw metal objects at it and they would stick. One of the guys found out that it would really mess up a wrist watch.
