Biggest Fiddleback Regret

Hi everyone.

I just responded to the "How you stumbled upon Fiddleback Forge" thread, and it got me thinking about all the different Fiddlebacks that I've bought and sold over the years. Some Fiddlebacks I haven't regretted letting go (changing needs/interest), but others still haunt me to this day! I thought it might be fun to start a "my biggest regrets" thread and see what Fiddlebacks still haunt people.

My biggest regret: A 2011, burlap woodpecker.

What a ___________ (insert any number of derogatory words), I am for selling it!

Don't feel bad,
Not sure who the gent was, but there was a member in mid 2013 who sold a matched orange/red shadetree woodpecker and bushpik(one off, with extended pommel!?) For something obscene like $325 for the pair + leather. I'm sure there are many stories like this out there so fret not as you are not alone. I sold my first, regretted it for a few days, then found something new that I loved even more!

My biggest regret is selling my original hunter. A guy down under got it and loved it. That was a few years ago. I've tired emailing him about it but no answer.......

Hey Schmittie I'll be keeping an eye out for that one here in Oz. ;)

I only got the Bushfinger and not Hunter in this pic (both S35VN):

Both the knives I've sold are getting more use then I would have given them and they are with people who appreciate them. (KephaC has a Bushfinger and Hector15 got a Ladyfinger)

Is this it? I'm having a hard time identifying some of the early ones.

It would be sweet to see Andy come out occasionally with a few "old school" knives. Sort of going back to his roots. A more simplistic knife by his current standards and yet made obviously with today's advanced craftsmanship. A nostalgia line so to speak. There are handle combos such as this, old school nessmuks, etc... Just some out of the box thinking. Actually I think I'll copy and paste this in the handle suggestions thread.

I miss the days of the DEEP SPALTING

Yeah, I have to admit, the first one to really catch my eye was a two-wood, dark over light handled Woodsman. Man that thing was just gorgious. I do like the newer handle shapes/profiles better, but it would be cool to see an old school two-tone wood handle pop out now and again. That said, the wood liners may have stopped due to the slight shrinkage of the wood liner over time. I had a bloodwood over blackwood handled Hiking Buddy. I got it in a trade, and it had sat in a box somewhere I think. The convex grind was awesome, I really liked the knife until one day a close friend talked me out of it. The blackwood had shrunken on it and you could catch a nail on the tang all the way around the perimeter of the handle, there was maybe 1/64" or a little less of tang exposed all the way around. The synthetic liners don't shrink like that.

I'm very lucky in that I've never had to let a Fiddleback go for purely financial reasons, although it has been a factor in some decisions. They've always gone because they didn't feel right for my needs/wants. That said, I let a beautiful sapphire burlap tapered tang stainless bushfinger go in a trade (you must be laughing Shane) that I think deserved a little more time in hand!
Edit - and it had mosaic pin!

I don't blame you she's gorgeous I will give you first refusal if I ever need to move her out. She's well loved if it's any consolation.

My biggest regret was not buying more when fiddleback Friday wasn't so incredibly intense...

Only one I've sold, I miss my scandi HB. I was getting too many in that color combo and just wanted to branch out a bit. Had a moment of dumbness, I don't know what I was thinking because I really liked that little spud. I won't sell another unless it is to snag the same model in a combo I like better.

Just picked up a scandi hiking buddy myself. It's one of those knives that just feels at home in the palm of your hand!

Nothing sexy about my grinding!

I am certain you are pretty sexy bending and buffing your skins!
